Fuel Pressure Regulator
I will be needing to pick a couple of these up as my two buddies and I, all will have walbro 255 FPs installed shortly. I was under the impression that if I dont regulate the pressure, the fuel will flow too freely and just waste a bunch of gas and run too rich. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's needed. I'd like something that mainly bolted up and didn't need a bunch of modification / fittings. I'm not sure if thats available though. What brand is relatively cheap but will do the job right? And where can I get one from?

i know half the site has 255 fuel pumps. What did you use, how did you install it, and where did you get it!!! please! lol

I bet most of the people with 255s don't even have a AFPR. You can run fine without it and it just makes it run richer on low throttle.

I don't have one on my Talon that has a 255. In the end it is up to you. There has always been a debate of FPR overrun and whether or not it is an issue.
I would say if you have all the other things done that you want, then do it. |

Just get an AEM standalone. :)
Then you won't need an aftermarket fpr because you can actually fully tune the car. You won't need an expensive electronic boost controller, you can just buy a $20 GM boost solenoid. You won't need an AFC. You won't need a MAFT and GM MAF because you can run without any MAS/MAF. You won't need an EPROM ECU and chip burner to adjust the timing maps for high boost on pump gas. You won't need to buy a new O2 sensor, because you can run without one. You won't need a datalogger, since you can log any and everything. You won't need an MSD for the stutterbox launch, since it can do that and NLTS. You won't need a shift light, because you can just wire an LED to the AEM and program it to come on whenever. You won't need a turbo timer, because they are gay anyways. You won't need a window switch for your nitrous, because the EMS can handle that. You can buy a cheaper dry nitrous kit, instead of the usual wet system required by turbo cars, because you can program the EMS to add fuel through the injectors. Anyways, back to the real world. Most people just run a 255 and live with it. A possible trick is to get a cheap B&M and jack the base fuel pressure high enough so that vacuum will actually do something. Or just try to tune low throttle on an AFC. |

So I should basically tune my car off the AFC without a FPR and see if I need the FPR first? Then, if its hard to tune at low throttle, I can just get a FPR and deal with it then?

I never had a problem with it on either of my 2g's. I have one to put on my copper car now though. I am not in a big hurry to install it though. You should be fine without one but some people say it is a necessity.

Yeah, when I put the 255hp on my car I couldn't get it to stop overrunning the FPR. I tried 4 different ones and only one would even allow the car to start, but idle was at 2k rpm.

I run a 255 with a stock regulator and I've never had a problem. 9guy9 upgraded to a aeromotive with a partial 6an or 8an return and still couldn't get the idle fuel pressure to a managable level.
