Alright so I think this is where I should be posting this.
I was really hoping to hold of on having to do any type of tranny overhaul but maybe you guys can help me out with a more "cost effective" solution

I drive a 92 talon AWD I would assume the stock tranny with an act 2600 clutch, small 16g MBC set at 15lbs. I think other mods for info is not applicable

anyways, my problem is in normal driving (not boosting) my tranny seems to be biting gears as I shift (not a smooth trasition) when downshifting for say a corner, I generally shift into second but with the clutch all the way down it refuses to go into gear, unless I rev it up to maybe 2500prms. I also am not able to get into 2nd when under boost
Also when going from neutral to 1st (not moving at a stoplight/sign) it also will refuse to go into gear unless I coax it in somtimes it will still feel like it "bites" the gear.
and lastly my reverse gear will not go into gear without grinding, it does that grind...slowdown...intogear thing (I don't know how else to explain it :/

so Is my tranny/syncros/clutch toast, it there anything I can do? and if it is going to be a rebuild, how much does somthing like that cost, and would you guys reccomend anywhere specific?
I think I'm going to change out all the tranny fluid to see if maybe that will help, but its starting to be very difficult to drive my car :(

Is your clutch pedal adjusted properly? It sounds like your clutch might not be disengaging all the way. Usually you won't get all of those problems with the tranny if it is worn, but it is possible. Take care of it soon though, it will cost a lot more if you end up messing up the gears and not just the synchro's.

You can adjust the clutch-pedal engagement point by lying on your back, twisting your body into a pretzel, and sticking your head under the pedals. The clutch pedal mechanism hooks to a rod that screws in and out of a yolk--the interior side of the clutch master cylinder. Loosten the locknut and adjust the rod slowly, twisting it out (increasing the length) will bring up the friction point. More in the vfaq about this here.

You may want to check for leaks in your clutch slave cylinder, which is attatched to the tranny. I had a similar problem that was alleviated by adjusting the rod and then replacing the slave cylinder. See if you can get smoother disengagement/engagement by pumping the clutch pedal. If so, it's a sure sign that one of these cylinders are wearing out.

you can also learn to double-clutch your downshifts so you dont kill synchros/gears when your clutch isn't engaging/disengaging fully

sooo I pumped my clutch and slipped really well into reverser (the worst to shift into) so that means one of the cylinders is going bad? or could it still be the pedal.
I did bring it to a shop to have them "look" at it, the guy said it was my clutch, and he was very adminate about that, he didn't speak english really well, but it was a "mom an pops" type shop in northtown off 47 ::shrugs::
how easy is it for me to replace the master/slave cylinders? or bad idea?

Take a look under your dash, see if there is any fluid seeping out of your master cylinder rod/piston area. Look at the slave cylinder down on the front of your transmission, see if that is leaking. I would say you need a new slave cylinder, but it wouldn't be a bad idea just to put both on and get it over with. On almost every car I have had, I put a slave in, and a couple weeks later the master starts leaking.

In addition to Scheides comment. When you adjust the clutch rod, very small adjustments make a huge difference! Only go 1/4 turn at a time.

Adjusting your clutch and bleeding the system can go a long way, but eventually you will probably need either a master cylinder, slave cylinder, or both.

soo I adjusted it, works very well now :D no grinding when putting it in reverse, although there is some... blackish fluid around the cylender soooo, I would assume that means it is going bad. How much will it cost for the parts, and how difficult is somthing like that to do?
