Pretty Cast Iron
What can I do to make my cast iron exhaust parts look pretty? Paint, polish, sandblast, chrome, etc.
Thanks in Advance, Kevin |
Re: Pretty Cast Iron
What exactly do you have that is cast? You should only have a Exhuast manifold that is Cast and the exhaust housing on the turbo will be Cast. Put a nice shiny heatsheild over the exhaust manifold and youll be done :)
Otherwise you can Jet Coat all that stuff but it will be $$. |
Re: Pretty Cast Iron
You will have to get it ceramic Jet Coated as stated above. I used 1200* temp paint and it burned off right away. That's about the only option you have is to ceramic coat it. I don't know what it would cost though. I'm guessing at least $75+. Somebody else on here may know a more accurate figure.

Re: Pretty Cast Iron
I have some "super duper special paint" that holds up to the temps pretty well. I tried a ton of different paints and this one is not a regular paint, more of a powder coat, but a cold process. I tested it on my exhaust manifold. It doesn't stay totally black, but it's a dark grey and looks 10x better than a bare one. You can see mine if you are interested. No, I am not giving out the name either :D It took way too much time to try and finally find it.

Re: Pretty Cast Iron
Replace them with SS ;) or get the coatings from Eastwood Co. They work well and look decent.

Re: Pretty Cast Iron
PS- although it looks nice and all after you paint it, you really shouldn't run without your heatshields especially the lower one. So if you run the shields like you should, painting them doesn't pay. I have mine on and i painted them, for what reason i don't know why.
On the dsmlink forums, i've read reports from people that their a/c fan melted due to not running the h. sheild. |

You could just polish that stock heatshield, or just JetHot coat it like some have said. It's a couple hundo I believe to do a peice but its nice stuff. There's a local place that can do it. It's just that nickel plate stuff... I'll try to find sommore info for you though. |
Re: Pretty Cast Iron
I don't know of hardly anyone that runs the lower heat shield. An aftermarket O2 housing doesn't even have the attachments for one. Some run the exhaust manifold heat shield, but most of the modified cars don't run anything.
