Transfer and Rear-end durability?
Hey guys,
Well my company has made a sudden change for the MUCH better. I am getting ready to begin ordering parts and such for my 500HP quest. I know of Shepard and his trannies...but what about the transfer case and rear end. I have a 1994 TSi... Who does or what is needed to make the transfer case and rear-end stronger? Is it really needed? Thanks -Kenny |
Re: Transfer and Rear-end durability?
Nope, they are fine totally stock.

Re: Transfer and Rear-end durability?
I broke a 4bolt rear axel at 500whp once... I would think it was a fluke or something like that. But I would worry about the center diff and tire / suspension selection first. Also Driveshaft Shop sells an upgraded aluminum drive shaft (replaces the front 2 sections) and has a larger yolk and longer splines going into the t-case. Also there are upgaded rear axels, all of which I am sure Shep runs in his car.

Re: Transfer and Rear-end durability?
Get your motor locked down (solid mounts or non ripped stock ones), do a center diff upgrade if you must and let it buck. The 4 bolt rear end will work just fine as long as it doesn't have alot of slop, or you don't have a fluke. (see above post).

Re: Transfer and Rear-end durability?
So my wallet will have it's work cut out for it other than just engine upgrades. These are the things I want to know about before I put alot of HP to the ground and destroy something that could have been taken care of before I planted my right foot to the floor!
I actually want to race this car off-road in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Association (one seater Rally of sorts) the end of this year and go full force the start of next season. I will race it in the 2006 Pikes Peak Hill Climb and hopefully shatter the Rally-America folks times in another class. I know that mountain very well! Any Rally prep issues I should be concerned with other than the obvious suspension, tire, and undercarrage protection? |
