hey guys, im going be helping my friend do an AT to MT swap and was wondering what is needed for everything.
also the car doing the swap as a 92 6bolt but the car that the tranny is comming from is a 90. will this work out just fine or not?

i just read something about the 90's shift cables were a little different in length than the rest of the years. don't remember if they were shorter or longer. better check on that.

- if the car is a AT right now, just use all the linkage parts from the 90 mt and you should be fine.

Don't forget about the ecu also. If I remember correctly the ecu's between a MT and an AT are different.

The rear diff has a diffrent ratio as well.

ECU's between an MT and AT for a 1g are the same, but the 90 ECU is different. I would use the 92 ECU and TB with 90 shifter cables.

I thought they had different fuel curves. The AT's actually have a switch on the center console to change the fuel map (or am I mistaken).

Is the auto tranny controlled by the ecu? If it is then the ecu's would be different, unless the ecu can determine the tranny type and change how it works. I don't know if this is true or not so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

--Edit--

Did a little research and found the switch to change shifting points. Also the auto ecu is set for smaller injectors as the manual is set up for larger injectors.

is the harness any different, i guess the turbos are, how about the cams?

MATCHBX 12-14-2003 02:28 PM

Cams and injectors are both different. AT cams are good for low-end power while MT ones are good for high-end power.

I believe the '90 harness is different than the '91-94 harness. Nash was talking about it in this thread: http://www.dsmstyle.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=698

The auto is set up for 360cc injectors vs 450's of the manual's. He isn't changing the engine, so that is a mute point. The ECU that controls the tranny is seperate from the ECU that controls the engine. The engine ECU's can be interchanged, although there are a few small differences. No biggie if you have a SAFC.

Yeah I read that a little while ago about the tranny computer and the engine computer being separate. DSMtalk has some good archives on it.
