heat shields

any of you that have made heatshields sans welding, do you just use sheetmetal? multiple layers? sheetmetal-thermalwrap/sheet-sheetmetal sandwich? :) i want to make one to isolate the turbine/downpipe from the radiator/alt/oil filter (around 1" between alt/oil filter and 3" downpipe) but don't have a welder around, so figured some combination of trimming and bending sheetmetal would be my best bet

JET i assume you've made some, any ballpark on what you'd charge for something a bit more polished? (assembly-wise, not shiny-wise)

Re: heat shields

I actually haven't made any. It wouldn't be real hard, but it would be time consuming. If you want a nice looking one in the 2 ply that you were talking about, probably about 3 hours at $35/hr plus $50 -$60 in materials (2 layers of stainless, thermal wrap and stainless rivets). It would look really pimp, but Summit has something that is a heat shield blanket that I ran on my car. It is made for up to 2.5" pipe I think, but I cut it in 1/2 and used 2 pieces and it worked great on my 3" DP. I think it was about $60. It has loop holes in it to put hose clamps.

Doesn't HKS have a nice turbine housing heat shield?
