USB DSMLink
Among my other DSMLink projects going at the time, I've made a DSMLink adapter with a USB connector as apposed to a DB-9 serial.Which will eliminate issues with USB to serial adapters. But, at present, to not conflict with the makers of the DSMLink, I will need to transplant an existing chip from your serial DSMLink adapter. These work 100% identical, with zero issues.
It in recognized by Windows as "DSMLink Adapter", and uses a virtual COM port driver(meaning it will show up as an additional COM port).Your original serial DSMLink adapter can be returned to normal for warranty/update issues. The USB adapter will have several feet of wire to further eliminate the need for the serial extension cable required for the serial DSMLink adapter.I"m making these in a low volume at first to address some issues I've heard from the locals with problems running USB to serial adapter or for people with laptops which don't have serial ports, and don't want to purhase an adapter.Still working on the final price, but it will be around $50.PM me with any interest. |

Re: USB DSMLink

it goes, diagnostic port, dsmlink black box which has db9 connection then goes your cable and directly into the USB port on the laptop? so basicly you built a usb to rs-232 male all in one? -E |

Awesome!

Re: USB DSMLink
Details:
The original DSMlink adapter contain the very common (MAX232)RS232 to TTL level converter, I've just replaced that converter with a USB to TTL converter. The rest of the adapter circuitry stays the same, so no piracy issues, and the DSMLink guys don't get their panties in a bunch.IMHO They should've done this years ago. |
Re: USB DSMLink

Or the original guy that designed it knew his shit, left the company, and now they don't know wft to do & don't want to admit it. ;)
Eric, I would love one of these. Anyone want to buy a used-three-times usb-to-serial adaptor? |

If my serial port craps out I'd definetly me interested in a USB version but so far it's been flawless. Nice hack regardless! Now if you could just make an adjustable circuit for my Stealth to turn off my AC at a particular TPS voltage that'd be great. Then I can be lazy and not tighten the belt. ;) |
