My progress

Well, I am pretty pumped! I am going to bust my ass and see if I can get my car ready for the dyno event. My head is totally stripped down and the engine came out tonight! I will be stripping the engine down tomorrow and taking everything down to Mike.

The block just needs to be honed and I will reassemble it. The head needs to be welded up, decked, 2 holes helicoiled, and I am going to do even more porting on it  Hopefully I can do the porting tomorrow during work! So Mike, I should be down there around 7 tomorrow!

So why does the head need to be welded? and helicoiled? Sounds like you should just get a different head?

Re: My progress

He would get a different head but the head the got fucked up already has a lot of hours of porting done on it already. I would guess in the neighborhood of 20 hours worth so that would be a lot of wasted time. Thats why he is re-using the old head. Trust me we have a few heads lying around if he wanted to just slap a used one on for the time being but if he can get his ported one that is already built with 1mm oversized valves blah blah then thats a better route to go in my book as well.

Glad you are getting it running again JET, I will be home this weekend to help you if you get the parts back. Well back to work.

Yeah, this head isn't really that bad. Just 2 grooves melted out the back side :D They aren't very big, so it should be a problem. There are 2 cam cap bolt holes that need to be helicoiled. Yeah, this head is set up for 1mm oversized valves and has about 16 hours of porting into it. It also only has 450 miles on it!

Damn DSM's always have to be difficult! I have 4 main studs stuck in the block, so I can't get the last 2 caps off to pull the crank. Grrrrrr!!!

Mike is going to use the stud puller he has on them. The head and block are down there now and hopefully they will be on the way to the machine shop yet this morning! I got home at 2am after dropping them off and was up at 6am to get up for work. I need sleep! Thanks Mike for the help!!

Re: My progress

What kind of power do you hope or anticipate it making on the dyno?

JET 07-07-2005 11:41 AM

Re: My progress

Well, for the beginning I am hoping for at least 425 whp on pump gas, because I still have the stock manifold on. I expect to see a big jump when I get one of my sheet metal ones on there. After that I am hoping for 475 whp on pump gas and 580 - 600 whp on C16 and 35 psi. At that point I may start running into issues with my FMIC and my turbo will be getting taxed pretty good, so we will have to see. Everything else should be in place to do it though.

I am not going all out race car either. My spool up should be around 3800 rpm, so it is going to be very streetable and torquey. I am shooting for a great street car, fun to drive but hella fast :D

Re: My progress

Are you still going to be running a full interior?

JET 07-07-2005 01:33 PM

Re: My progress

For right now I will be. I have it partially prepped for a cage right now, but the rest of the interior will go back in. No rear carpet, rear belts, things like that, but it will look finished. I have black Corbeau's that will be going in too.

Re: My progress

Dam that's alot especially on pump gas. I'd be happy to get that on C16 on my 50trim. Of course i'm suring you're running a much bigger windmill too. I can't wait to see what that new manifold of yours will do. Best to dyno with the stocker like you're doing so you have a baseline. When do you hope to have a working prototype, Aug? or later?

JET 07-07-2005 02:05 PM

Re: My progress

Hopefully I should have the first one done by Aug 1st. I need one on my car and dyno'd before the shoot out :D I have materials to do 8 of them, 6 stock sized TB's and 2-3" accufab's. I am probaby also going to start making them so the Q45 TB will bolt right on. Noone else does this yet.

Re: My progress

My car got taken off the fast track. It can't get in to get tuned for at least 1.5 weeks. That will give me time to straighten out some wiring and to work on the interior. I should be able to work on the intake manifolds too. Hopefully it will still be running the middle of next week. I will have it at the dyno day, I just won't dyno it.

Re: My progress

Well, the studs were a bitch to get out, but they are out, block was dropped off yesterday, hopefully they can pump it out quick since it is just honing. The head was an easy welding job, it is over there as well getting decked etc.

Good luck on getting everything done JET! Anything else you need, let me know.

Re: My progress

Thanks to Enes I may be able to get my tuning done this week! He had a dyno spot, but probably won't be able to use it.
