A Big problem! Turbo shaft snapped.
I've never seen or heard of this happening before. I was working on my car, checking for boost leaks the other night, finished it up and was about to go do a couple pulls. Well I started my car and 2 mins later I heard a pop so I shut it off right away again. Went and started checking everything and couldnt find anything wrong but I could hear sizziling in by the O2 housing. So I took off the down pipe and a bunch of oil was dripping out. My first thought was head gasket, so I pulled the turbo. No oil in the manifold so I feared the worst. Turbo was toast, but how could it just die on start up when it was fine when I pulled the car in the garage?? So I reached in and the compressor wheel was loose as all hell, but it felt different, I couldnt feel the bolt holding it on. So I looked and sure as hell it wasnt there. Looked in my intake pipe and there it sat. So I pulled the turbo out, took off the turbine housing and the turbine wheel and shaft came out with it leaving the compressor wheel inside the compressor housing still. So my question is, can I just get a shaft with a new turbine wheel or do I have to buy a whole new turbo now?
The numbers on the turbo read: Compressor housing: M24 .70A/R Turbine housing: Precsion (no numbers) Compressor wheel: 925 Turbine wheel: 869 Inside the Compressor housing: ILEO3518 Now when I picked up this turbo the guy told me it was a FP58 (older version of the 3065, but without ball bearings) Here are some pictures I took. I can get more if needed but I just want to know how I can fix it without going and buying another turbo. I dont know if you guys at Elite could get any parts but anything is better than nothing. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...1/DSC00455.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...1/DSC00451.jpg The number inside the compressor housing: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...1/DSC00457.jpg Thanks guys. |
Re: A Big problem! Turbo shaft snapped.
I would call Robert at FP and see if they will do anything for ya. They are good guys so they would probably hook you up with a cheap fix at the least.
