newb question
i was looking for a good motor swap to do into my GST spyder.. should i go w/ the 6 bolt or someone at one point had said something about a 2.4 Liter out of some early 90's car.. i don't want to make crazy numbers only 350-400 on pump gas.

Re: newb question
Go with a 6 bolt, either 2.0 or 2.4l.
|
Re: newb question
for only 400whp range, 2.0 6 bolt will be more than sufficient.

By you wording that statement like you did, stay with the 2.0 6 bolt. |

Re: newb question
yes i don't know much about the 2.4... but why not do a motor i don't know a lot about, learn something in the process and not have to push the motor as hard to get the power i want.

Re: newb question
If you are building a motor from scratch might as well for a 2.3 or 2.4l. If you already have something to drop in, then just use that. A 2.3/2.4l will make power easier on pump gas, but a 2.0l can make that kind of power on pump gas with the right parts(DSMLink, big turbo, cams, sheetmetal intake, big FMIC, etc).

Re: newb question
I agree on the 2.3 expecially, the 6 bolt 2.4 cranks are not difficult to come by, stroker pistons are available from many companies, oil squirters and knock sensor location is obviously right. As long as you don't care about running longer rods, it is a decent cost effective way to go. More power for very little difference in cost.
|
Re: newb question
Why would you need to run a longer rod on the 2.3? Most people run stock length rods on 2.3s.
|
Re: newb question
Some people care about Rod Ratio. But with a 100mm stroke it's hard to make a big diffrence with out making the price astronomical.
|
Re: newb question
Since it is FWD, 2.0 will easily make 400hp with the supporting mods. A 2.3 would a little bit..... A stock 7 bolt will make 400 but for how long is the case.

Re: newb question
If your original 2.4L is still in good running order and you don't want to make huges amounts of power, just a little more reliably than you have already, check out this site about converting your 2.4L to a DOHC turbo set-up.
*** Nevermind, I thought I read you had a Spyder GS, instead of the GST. *** |
Re: newb question
My comment was misunderstood I think, the reason i mentioned not caring about running a longer rod is that you really couldn't with a 2.3. The only real reason a 2.4 would be a better option is for the higher deck height allowing the use of a longer rod or if you wanted to increase the stroke even further. The bore diameters have the same limits on both blocks. That is why the 2.3 is a good option for a high torque street motor. And of course the fact that you can't tell from the outside is a plus.
