Ok, im really torn here.
I really want a sport bike, but theres a couple problems im running into, and have questions. and being that there are a bunch of bikers here i would like to know opinions.
1. If i were to have around $4700 to spend, what should i be looking at? I really like the Honda CBR 600 RR but i dont know if i can get one for that.
2. Ive been riding motorcycles/Dirtbikes since i was around 11 years old. not really on the streets, Will i be roadkill?
3. Is there any websites that deal in motorcycle sales, just like cars.com and such?
4 what else should i be looking at in regards to other items needed, i know, helmet/protective gear is needed, but other then that what other costs are involved.
5. Are there any deals that come with a hot ass blonde in the asking price? Like buy the bike, get the girl free? LOL

Im really iffy about this purchase because im not sure if i want to get a bike or get a Super Pocket Bike. The Pocket bike would be nice but would only be used to racing, and the big bike would be awesome and fun but im scared as hell of crashing on the highway or something and getting run over by crazy drivers on the highway.

I am not ripping on you Tom, but you aren't the most attentive person, so you are probably more likely to go down. I would stick with something pretty docile. Even the newer 600's are pretty serious machines. You want something that is surefooted and not twitchy, just in case you make a stupid move, it won't bite you in the ass. I would look at a Suzuki SV650S. Pretty good looking bike, it is light, nice torquy V-twin, and it handles very good. It is a great first road bike. If you want a full crotch rocket, look at a 98+ Yamaha YZF600 (not the R6). They look really nice, but are a little more laid back that the new bikes.

As for websites, check out Autotrader.com, they have a bike one too. 2wf.com also has a really good classifieds section, as does motorcycle.com

Why wouldnt i go with a R1 or R6? They are pretty cheap. there was an R6 in easton for 3200. and a guy at my work is selling his Honda CBR 929 RR for $5k

LOL. I am attentive. and have very good reactions, hell i played goalie for hockey for 15 years, im pretty aware of my surroundings at all times.

I was just meaning that you get distracted pretty easily. If a hottie went walking by, I will bet $100 you wouldn't be looking at the road! An R6 is a very twitchy bike, you definately don't want that for a 1st road bike. If you must get a current 600, get the 600/636 Kawasaki ninja, or the GSXR600. Both are pretty stable bikes and have enough power to get you into trouble. Both will pull power wheelies in 1st just accelerating hard.

I am not saying you will crash a current 600, but your chances start going up a lot. Things happen in a hurry on a bike, right Erik? You need a bike that is forgiving in case you get into trouble, otherwise you are going down. But what the hell do I know, I have only been riding rockets for 11 years and raced for 3 years.

I'm by no means a seasoned rider, but I pay exclusive attention to what's going on around me. Even with that, a lady pushed me off the road and I laid my bike down (softly). It happens in a split second. And in CA, there are many more idiotic drivers out there and more on the move out there.

I will have to say I really like the choice I made in a bike. I got a 2001 Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja (600cc). I got mine REALLY reasonable because of the miles that are on it. But they can be had in your price range easily. Very light and agile. Torquey as hell. I've scared myself in the upper revs. 2003 and up had Fuel Injection while the 2002 and down had quad carbs. Very easy to take care of and very easy on gas in stock form (50+mpg).

Stay below 750cc's and you should be OK for a starter bike. Get your road miles under you and then trade up in a year or two. I'll probably go up to a 750 or slightly higher in the next year or two.

My friend I see a katana in your future. Stay away from the sport bikes for now till you get more familiar with what you are doing. Remember you dont have a steal cage to prtect you when you make a mistake you will be paying in flesh.

Been Riding bikes for 20+ years, and believe me man it's not a joke WHEN you have to lay it down.

Start off with with some baby steps first and get a more nimble bike like Jet suggested then upgrade once you develop some riding skill.

as others have said
stay away from the big daddy bikes until you get use to the 4 stroke power.

a 250cc dirt bike is WAAAY different than a 600cc sport bike in just about every catagory.



a hockey game is different than driving.

driving you've got to watch for EVERYTHING. You need to turn into a defensive driver, otherwise you'll be pizza.

I started on a '98 Ninja ZX-6R (are these carb.?) and I think it was a very nice beginner bike. Not too fast, not too slow. And people in cars don't see you all the time, so you're always watching out for them. My sister is trying to make me quit riding now :D. The 2000+ CBR 600's are pretty nice bikes also.

I really would like to get a bike and looked into it for a while. I personally would buy an old beater 450 or something just to ride for a year or so and get used to it. If you set it down, oh well, its an older beater 450. I wouldn't go bigger than a 600, mostly because I would kill myself on a bigger, more powerful bike.

None of those 3 bikes are starter-bikes. Start on something more docile and easier to handle. I also hightly suggest you attend a motorcycle safety course, you will learn a lot.

It would definitely be a great bike, just not a great beginner's bike :D. Insurance on a Busa for me could cost ALOT at 19yrs old and I never took that motorcycle class. Oh yeah...tpunx, if you havent taken that class. You should look into it. After you get you pass you get a great discount on your insurance. Well....from what I've heard anyways.

There is a lot of good advice in here though. I am thinking about getting a bike but I am just gonna buy an old Honda 550 or something that I can learn on. Something that I wont care if I crash.

I thought this thread seemed familiar. R1 - Why did you feel the need to drag it back up? Must be those triangles rattling around inside your head ;)
