91 tranny in 90 FWD turbo
I just installed a 91 tranny in a 90 turbo FWD laser. ( along with many other things). I messed up good and put gear lube in the bell housing.. haha laugh, newb mess up and it will cost more in the end.
It has a stock clutch that im sure is bad now. My questions are as follow ~ Do you need to swap any additional parts in order for proper engagement? Example shift linkage? I Left the 90 linkage in and it will go into gear but makes a sound EVERYTIME you put it into gear. This tranny was perfect. If not, Any ideas why its making a grinding type sound? Keep in mind it does go into gears. I Havent attempted to drive it yet. Worst case scenerio, I just need it on the side of my house so i can use my garage for other things. Thank you for your time. |

Shy of actually changing all the cables, shift box and shifter.....
I have gotten by plenty with just changing the little bracket on the tranny. I have a couple 91-94 style brackets. Swap me your 90 one (I'm out) and i'll send you this one. It puts the linkage back into alignment. I can elaborate if you want. Pics too. Wiz |

Bracket, cables, and actual shifter to do it right (this will clear up your issues). The half-shafts are the same between those years so no worries there.

You can get buy using the 90 cables and shifter but swaping them would be the best way. I can elaberate on how I did it on my car when I have more time if you want.
