Heavy gas smell..
 

I was driving, and for some reason the gas smell i have had before seems to smell even more. My friend driving behind me one day said it smelt really bad, and I don't know what it could be. I checked the intake, right behind the injectors, but there is no gas puddles at all..I had recently tuned the car (advanced the timing, re-gapped the spark plugs-where off not at .028, but at .046) and it also DRINKS gas..here's the specs on the car..
1992 gsx
built motor
550cc injectors
ported n polished big 16g
fmic
ported 2g mani
3" downpipe/exhaust straight to magnaflow muffler-no cat or resonator
safc
tmo-gotta get the software on my laptop..
maft
etc etc etc..hopefully this is enough for you all..any ideas?

Leaking gas tank or fuel line? Check around the fuel pump.

I don't know about the smell outside the car but I had a problem where the white ring on top of the pump assembly wasn't tightened down and it felt I was going to suffocate, it was worse when the weather got nicer cause I would drive with the windows down and it would pull more fumes out of the tank.

how does the car run? Done a boost leak test? If you have boost leaks your ecu might be seeing more air than hits the engine and putting in too much fuel which isnt all getting burnt off. The car would run not very well if thats happening though...

My Laser had a severe gas smell last fall. Finally after putting up with it for a while I had a local shop pull the tank (I was gone to college) and turned out the top of the tank had a nice crack in it. It would only leak when the tank was full and the car was moving but always had a strong smell.
