VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
So after the 40 worst bands they listed brought up some good music debates what does everone think of their top 20 for Greatest Artists of Rock?
Here's the list. 20-Alice Cooper 19-The Clash 18-Ozzy Osbourne 17-The Ramones 16-Cream 15-Pink Floyd 14-Soundgarden 13-Queen 12-The Sex Pistols 11-Aerosmith 10-Kiss 9-Guns N' Roses 8-The Who 7-Van Halen 6-Nirvana 5-Metallica 4-AC/DC 3-Jimi Hendrix 2-Black Sabbath 1-Led Zeppelin Personaly Metallica not being ranked above AC/DC isn't right, and AC/DC up that high at all doesn't float with me. |
Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
I think Nirvana is one of the worst bands ever created. I really dont understand why he is such an idol when it comes to rock. His vioce is horrible and he just screeches too much. I cant stand them and they are way overrated just because he killed himself or died for whatever reason.
Not my list of top 40 but some are ok. |
Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Would NIN fall into the "rock" category? Cuz they should be on there if they do.
Otherwise I'm not a huge hard rock fan, so I'm not going to say whether or not that's accurate. |
Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Yeah, NIN should be at #12 instead of the sex pistols. It looks like they were giving bands credit for originality. For pushing the envelope farther. The list isn't nearly as bad as the other one, but I still don't totally agree with it.
Peter, the reason Nirvana gets so much credit is that they pretty much started the alternative genre. At least they are the ones that brought it mainstream. |

2. they listed ozzy osbourn's bands on there twice. that is retarded 3. i'm suprised alice cooper is on there, he was supposedly an "underground" artist, from what i gather. 4. nirvana technically should be number one, despite EclipseTurbo's feelings. nirvana changed the face of rock and roll in a way not seen since the beetles. and if you don't believe me, ask any producer or music afficianado, they will tell you, nirvana was an incredibly influencial band. 5. Megadeth wasn't on there, they rocked harder than metallica 6. AC/DC made huge waves around the world with they music. don't question it. that's a general set of statements on my part, and the megadeth part was personal. because i like them. (and because they didn't need pussy ass therapy sessions to resolve their differences) |
Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Once again, VH1 sucks. Although this is really a subjective thing, so everybody will have a different list. Here's mine.
1 Dream Theater 2 Megadeth 3 Rush 4 Def Leppard 5 Dokken 6 Queensryche 7 Van Halen 8 Winger 9 Scorpions 10 Iron Maiden 11 Judas Priest 12 Linkin Park 13 Skid Row 14 Whitesnake 15 Krokus 16 Heart(early stuff) 17 Quiet Riot 18 Metallica(old stuff only) 19 Creed 20 Evanescence(too early to know for sure) I don't consider Led Zeppelin to be hard rock. Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Steve I like your list ALOT better.
Jet- Yea I know they started that whole alternative grundge stuff, but I just cant stand nirvana. |
Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
well, i didn't think nirvana was hard rock either..most of that list looks to be the classic stuff. with guns, and roses, i'd throw in velvet revolver. I'd also not thin evanescence is a hard rock band. I know that greenday was the band that broke the punk rock era, but no one mentioned them? creed..I think is not rock at all...sorry. I got 2 cds, and i don't see them rockin it up.
on a side note..anyone listen to tenacious d? I am right now, and that shit's just crazy funny! -A. Swift |

Re: VH1 Top 20 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Yeah, if you watch their videos. But if you listen a little closer to most of their tunes, there's some pretty good stuff in there. My favorite CD of theirs actually came out in '95 when they were a trio, much harder and less radio friendly, just the way I like it. Ol' Kip can actually play that bass.
