Brake Pad Suggestions

92 Tsi AWD 5 speed
- 2 pot caliper upgrade

I need new front pads. I want something with better stopping power, but good for street use. I don't care about brake dust too much. What do you all recommend?

Axxis Metal Master

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions

Don't get the metal masters, upgrade and get the Axxis Ultimates. They are like $5 more and WAY better than the metal masters.

Thanks! Anyone know about those Hawk pads? There are two kinds. I believe the HPS and HP+? I'll look into thos Axxis Ultimate pads!

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions

The Hawks are pretty good to, I would only get them if you are going to do track days though. Get the Ultimates, you won't be disappointed for street use.

Wagner ThermoQuiet is what I have on my car. I like them for DDing but have some brake fade trying to slow from 120mph to 55mph. Not that I would know or anything.

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions

I like the wagnerthermo's too..cheap, but good. Also, look into some ceramic pads..they hold up better, and greatly reduce the brake dust situations..

Aren't ceramics also known for killing rotors though?

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions

Yeah, ceramics also don't bite well when cold. They also don't heat up as much because the are ceramic, so for daily driving they are always cold and sucky. Ceramics are mainly a track pad.

Ceramics are actually a decent street (not performance) pad. They have better cold bite than semi-metallics, don't dust, and don't squal.

Re: Brake Pad Suggestions

I tried ceramics (don't remember which brand, Raybestos?) and their initial bite was very poor. If you were doing a 120-55 stop, they would heat up and bite around 90. The porterfields are great pads too, but are about $80 if I remember right.
