_vti_cnf
Anyone else have a problem with this. It might be a virus. I started noticing a folder named "_vti_cnf" in almost every folder on my hard drive. So i did a search on my computer for all files and folders for the above name and currently its at 341 files of exactly the same name and all of them created within 5 minutes of each other. So on 5/12/2005 at 11:25-11:30 a shit load of files were created with the exact same items inside of the folders. Inside each one is a configuration file called Desktop and 4 invalid shortcuts. inside the config file it reads:
vti_encoding:SR|utf8-nl vti_timelastmodified:TR|14 Dec 2004 10:37:02 -0000 vti_extenderversion:SR|4.0.2.6513 vti_cacheddtm:TX|14 Dec 2004 10:37:02 -0000 vti_filesize:IR|292 Ive never come across this before and when doing a search on google or msn for it it just comes up a bunch of servers directories. Totally clueless as to what could have caused this. Has anyone had this before. Shit spread faster then herpes. |

Re: _vti_cnf
Have you ever tried using Adaware on your computer?
|
Re: _vti_cnf
I use Adaware, Spybot s&d and Microsoft antispyware on a weekly basis

Re: _vti_cnf
None of those programs can find or cure a virus. Sounds like you have some malicious shit on your computer.

Re: _vti_cnf
_vti_cnf has something to do with Microsoft FrontPage.I believe it contains all the data for the specific file when FP extensions are used, so it can be restored in case it gets deleted
Edit: The _vti_cnf files/folders are normally hidden |
Re: _vti_cnf
Its nothing to be alarmed about Tom, lightning is correct. That folder is a back up of data contained in that specific folder. They are in every folder on our work computers.

Re: _vti_cnf
WTF? why would i want every file to have that shit. Can i get rid of it? Talk about a waste of space. Each folder contains 5 kb of files.

Re: _vti_cnf
If you google "FP vti_cnf" or "Front Page vti_cnf" you will see many matches with people asking the same question, didn't read into it enough to see if it was answered though.Personally I'd try the Microsoft knowledge base.

Re: _vti_cnf
Personally, I would run format without the \s option. Stupid winblows. Front page is about the gayest program they ever came up with. It is fitting that it splatters crap all over your hard drive. It is punishment for using their lame OS.
