Rear Diff.

Was wondering if a 1g rear differential would fit on to a 2g.

Nope, but why would you need to put one in?

Re: Rear Diff.

I need to put one in because my rear axle broke and the rear diff. cover is cracked where it mounts to the frame, got a rebuild kit for the axle but broke agian when i was going to take it home.

Re: Rear Diff.

The rear-end itself is probably the same (internally) but the case is different because of it's mounting. 3 bolts on each side and 2 for the rear. The 2g has it's own motor mounts (like the engine mounts) for each side of the carrier.

You might be able to just buy the cover from the dealer.

Thanks alot for the help. I was just wondering since that i am going to have to wait for the part or find a part like that is it safe to disconnect the drive shaft and rear differential? Make it a front wheel drive for a while by pluggin in the transfer case? Is it going to be too much stress on the transmission?

Re: Rear Diff.

You can't do that unless you have a welded center diff, welded VC or VC eliminator. Without one of thos items, the car will drive like it has a slipping clutch. And after a while you'll burn up your VC.

A welded or VC eliminator is fairly cheap and easy to install. No need to remove the tranny even. This can also be used for dyno's.
