I have a 56-trim with a T04S cover, but it has a T4 exhaust side on it not a Mitsu. I haven't used it yet either.

How good are the internal gates good for(PSI). About 25 max?

I don't know exactly. I know some people are running 28-30psi with the internally gated versions. Internals often have a trade off of not being able to run high boost stable or creeping at low boost. JET is running a PTE with an internal gate, I am not sure if he has tried to run over 24psi yet though. I am not a big fan of internals, you will get better spoolup with an external and usually get very stable boost control.

I think on race gas it was holding 26psi pretty good. And probably would have held more but I don't know. It had to be ported out though cause it was creeping pretty bad but after Jet did that it was fine. External is definetly the way to go though, I am pretty sure he is going external when he gets a new turbo.

So, what all would I need to bolt one of these turbo's up? I have an external wastegate. So I would need turbo, feed line kit, and a cast elbow? Do I need a new manifold also (2g now)? Is the cast elbow to replace the o2 housing meaning I would run a manifold mounted wastegate? I planned on running it off the o2 housing.

A 50-trim is the best street/strip sized turbo out of these. The cast 90 degree elbow is usually used on 2Gs to make the charge air outlet similar to the placement on the T25 for hooking up to intercooler piping. On short route 1G intercooler piping setups like the Buschur, Indy Race Core, Victory, SLS, etc FMIC kits you don't usually use the elbow, they are setup for a turbo with its outlet pointing close to straight down.

How does the 50-trim compare to the GT 56-trim? From what I have been hearing, the spool-up is only about 200 rpm slower. Doesn't it flow a lot more while being much more efficient?

The 56-trim is going to spool quite a bit slower than a 50-trim. Should be a lot more than 200RPMs. The 56-trim is larger than a 60-1. It is close in size to a T61. The smallest exhaust wheel that they even offer for the 56-trim is a stage 5 compared to the stage 2 and stage 3 available on the 50-trim models. You could get a dual ball-bearing version (FP3065 or GT35R) for a fair amount more and possibly get better spoolup.

If I had my car tuned on a 50 trim and changed to a 60 trim, would the 60 trim be noticably faster? Sorry for all the questions, I only want to buy 1 turbo. I dont want to have to upgrade because I want faster. BTW, i am trying to get rid of my 16g, then I will have enough money. I dont want all my money tied up in parts which are laying around. The jump from a 50-trim T04E compressor wheel to a 60-trim T04E isn't that huge. Most guys step up to a 60-1 from the 50-trim. The T04E 50-trim actually flows more than a T04E 54-trim and flow similar to a T04E 57-trim, but it's more effiecient at high high boost levels than any of the wheels in the T04E family due partially to the exducer size of the 50-trim being slightly larger than the 46, 54, 57, and 60-trims. The 60-trim is rated to flow a little more than the 50-trim, but it might not be as efficient at 30psi from looking at it's compressor map. However it looks like part of the T04E 60-trim's comp map might be missing on the ones publicly available. The 60-trim should make a little more power though just because it can flow more air, a couple points of efficiency doesn't have a huge effect on power overall.
People have run 10s on 20Gs and 50-trims, people have run 14s on 60-1s, you have to have the rest of the setup and tuning to make full use of any large turbo. If you go bigger than a 50-trim, you are probably going to want to get your setup capable of reving to 8000 or 8500 and making power up there so that lag becomes less of an issue. If you want a T04E 60-trim, we can get you one at the same price. I only listed what I thought would be the 3 most popular sizes. |
I will probly end up with the 50 trim then since I have a completely stock 7 bolt. Want to keep that as long as possible. Or atleast until I snap a rod. Then, I will do the engine overhall. Thanks for the info. How long do you think the sale will go? Looks like I can get rid of my turbo when-ever I want. Hope to sell local though.
