clutch rod free play?

the clutch goes almost to the floor to engage. while adjusting the top free play do i go clockwise or counterclockwise to give less play?

Remembering back to last year when i did it about everyday for awhile. If you looking at the rod straight on(towards the front of the far), you would go clockwise with it. You turn the rod outward towards the firewall to prevent engagement right off the floor. If it disengages way too far off the floor like almost near where the pedal is in it's stationary position, you would turn the rod inward towards the seat. It's a bitch getting at it.
