would 95 TSI tranny even swap a 97 GST?

My tranny is going bad in my 2g eclipse GS-T. I just wanted to know if a 95 TSI tranny would work?

Aslong as the TSi is FWD then yes it'll swap in fine. As far as I know, no changes were made between the 95-99 trannies.

Not true........

97+ trannies run a larger driveaxle input shaft. You will need 95-96 axles (or at least the inner cups). Everything else is the same.

You can even run AWD axles as long as it's 95-96 and with AWD you will have the equal-length setup.
