Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
I bought a couple 9" slimline fans that are reversible to pull and push. They are supposed to come from the factory as pullers so I can mount them on the inside of the radiator and have them pull air through it...
I tested them out and they seem to blow away from the fan grille... meaning they would blow towards the front of the car installed. That would make it a pusher right? I guess Im going to have to reverse them. My question deals with that. It says to reverse the blade, which I did. But what does reversing the polarity mean? I assume it just means make positive negative and negative positive. Basically switch + and - from what I had. I just dont want to try this before some clarifications and have the motors fry... Also would it be safe to have both fans running of the existing wiring on my 1G awd? I would want to hook up both fans to run off the normal cooling fan wiring, (not the AC fan wiring). So instead of one stock fan there will be 2 9" fans that put out 3.5amps each. The specs on the fans are below: (Each) CFM Pull 1100-1250 CFM Push 1050-1400 Thanks in advance, Peter |
Re: Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
Thats exactly what reversing the polarity is.I can't remember the stock specs, but I'm pretty sure you'll be safe running both fans off the same circuit. If not, you'll just blow the fuse, and have to add a relay with its own fuse

Re: Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
We added another slim line fan to Andys car last year and they both ran with no problems at all. We just wired one of them up with a toggle switch in the ash tray.

Re: Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
I decided to tap into this thread because it deals with what i'm inquiring on. I have on my 99 GSX a PTE 50trim turbo with the stock 2g mani. It's internal gated. From the edge of the wastegate vacuum actuator part there is 2" from there to the radiator. I need to know what fan will work for me. Summit has alot but the smallest is like 2.8". I don't know if they mean that is the overall thickness in the center where the motor is or what? Or does it taper smaller towards the end. I was thinking about a 12" fan. I think if it were a 10" it would clear but then i have less cooling area. Anyone have my similar setup and run a Flex-a-lite FAL type fan. Let me know what you have.
Thanks. |
Re: Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
I don't remember what kind mine is, but just go to checker. They stock slim fans. You could even take one out and measure if ou wanted then. Summit probably won't be any cheaper anyways.

Re: Slimline fan Wiring hookup.
Thanks, we actually have a Checker 15min from my place. I'll see what they got in stock there. If our cars were about 12" longer in the front, we'd never have some of these problems. :-)
