Where could I find a decent spring compresser for a decent price? By spring compresser, i mean to compress the struts / springs in my 1g.

Re: spring compressor.
i have a hydraulic one.. paid like $130 i think last year, lets just say its a LOT safer and easier to just slide it in, lock it in... jack it up.. loosen up the bolts let it release... and you are done!
;p.. i'm down to about 20 minutes/corner if there is no issues with bolts..... -e |
Re: spring compressor.
How is it safer than a screw type system? You cant really break those unless you apply to much pressure or do something dumb. Its probably just as fast if your using air tools to turn the big bolt.
I really wouldnt buy one if you can rent them from somewhere cheap. Ive used mine once and now they just sit... until you need them again, which isnt often. |
Re: spring compressor.
I've seen the typical clamp and screw type at bumper to bumper for $60 and I think I've seen some in harbor freight around $12(death trap), that should give you a ballpark range.

Re: spring compressor.
I've hand the gay clamp type ones break twice in the past.Luckily both times they broke just as I started compressing the spring. Also, on alot of import applications, the coils are wound tighter, making the clamping type tools a pain in the ass, if they even work at all.The spring will bind up the clamp before you even get the coil compressed enough to get it off the strut, had this problem a week or two ago with an EVO8 coil.
The hydraulic types are much safer, and if you plan on using it often, the only way to go.If you do use the clamp type, DO NOT use air tools, I believe thats why I've had problems with breaking them in the past |
