Has anyone used a fuel line magnet? I know this is a tough crowd for any gimmicky kind of stuff but, over the last eight years I have talked to a lot of people that say it works. 2/15/05 I picked one up and put it on the Talon (stock Turbo AWD) I was getting around 15 city, 20 Hwy MPG before. Now I get 17-18 city and 26 Hwy. I talked to my Dad about it and he put one on his 86 Chevy Suburban V8, now he gets about two miles per gallon better. This is the only info I found that exlpains how it works.

It is a MATCHED PAIR of tuned custom sealed Neodymium Super inductors (magnets) that flip the state of the Hydrogen in the fuel more from PARA-HYDROGEN to ORTHO-HYDROGEN which is a more volital state of Hydrogen that ignites easier and burns more completely. At liquid-hydrogen temperatures, the stable state is almost all para. Of course you'll never get there as it only exists at -423 degrees C. However in gasoline as a Hydrocarbon fuel; Hydrogen does exist in it's para state. Hydrogen GAS on the other hand under ordinary conditions is a mixture of two kinds of molecules, known as ortho- and para-hydrogen, which differ from one another by the spins of their electrons and nuclei. Normal hydrogen at room temperature contains 25% of the para form and 75% of the ortho form. The ortho form cannot be prepared in the pure state. Since the two forms differ in energy, the physical properties also differ. You want to store Hydrogen in the PARA state so it is stable, and change it to more ORTHO so it will burn quickly and completely. The Space Shuttle flips the state of it's Hydrogen in the center engines on the Shuttle Orbiter itself just before ignition on lift-off also for the most power possible.

I picked one up for $11.95 on sale at Harbor Freight. If you would like to try one first I have one with your name on it. Also, I think thay make a rear earth magnet for high flow fuel systems, not sure.

The only owning here is better gas mileage, it worked for me.

This is what I expected people to say, but have you tried it?

The first few words gave it away. A matched pair of tuned magnets?? It is a friggin' magnet, how do you tune it??

What types of gains have you seen?

Those electrons are travelling at over 11 MILLION MPH (if I remember all my chemistry right from college). You expect a magnet to stop it and make it reverse direction? Especially as it is speeding by in the fuel line? Sorry man, I am just not buying it.

There is a guy at work that bought a "platimun injector" too. It supposedly spits out a little bit of platinum and gives better gas mileage. He swears it worked too.

Alright, this isn't all that scientific, but is a link on the subject anyway. There was a discussion on an engineering forum too, but it was a hard to read format. They agreed that it was a hoax though. The EPA also said it was a hoax.

I think that my experience with the magnets has been beneficial, and I offer to anyone on this site to try it for free.( one person ) I’m interested to see if someone else gets the same results.

I'd gladly put it on my Dakota. I average 9-10 mpg around town and 15-16 on the highway.

I would be willing to try it on the Sentra. I always get 32-33 mpg with the mixed driving it sees. Basically the same commute all the time. I don't see how it could work, but I have definately seen stranger things. I believe it is like the article I linked to says, it is a placebo effect. You think you are saving gas, so you don't step on the gas as hard as you used to, etc. In that case it actually would work, although the device itself is not actually doing anything, it is your actions that are.

I think that could be true. Today I put on on my friends Ford Expedition, I will see if it helps him at all.

Alot of it is in the mind of the driver as well. There was a study somewhere on these gas savers and air filter gimmicks that people always tend to drive better right away and thus do show improvments cause they want to see improvements.

So if we really wanted to see if it works, you need someone like my dad. He keeps track of gas milage every time. I could just ask him what he gets, put it on without telling him and ask him again in a week or two. That should rule out the placebo effect.
