Electronic Boost Controlers
Ok what are the pros and cons of diffrent types of electronic boost controllers? What are everyones thoughts on any of these? What are others using currently?
Greddy: Profec A, Profec B and Spec II, or the new Profec B Type S Apexi: AVC Type R Turbo Smart: E Boost (guage size one) HKS: EVC 5 Blitz: DSBC Type R and Type S I think that covers the major ones. Right now I am leaning towards the Profec B Spec 2. or the Turbo Smart for fitment purposes. Dan |
Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Profec A is one of the best, but can only goto like 21-23psi. Profec B is a PITA to learn, but good upto 43psi and worked great for me.
AVC-R is a match for an AFC, but is pricey and some have had problems with the learn feature. Never used the others. Try: www.dsmreviews.com Wiz |
Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Any elaboration on how the profec b is hard to learn?

Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Tons of features, all kinds of settings for scramble, cut-off, peak hold, warning, not to mention you can add the switch for 2 levels. And it's all in metric.....one day i'll learn how to convert in my head. It's good now, just took a while to get everything set right.

Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Kinda of like comparing the Old-school AFC to the SAFC II's. More features, but takes some time to learn and get to use proficiently.

Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Didn't I just sell you an Eprom ECU? If so, you could just add a real solenoid in place of the BCS, a MAP sensor, and I could re-do some eprom code to control it.We could even add a potentiometer on the EGR temp input to make it completely adjustable. If you don't mind waiting a while, I'd be really interested in trying this out

Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
Yes I do now have an eprom thanks to you but, I will be installing a dsm link into it. I have a very cheap electronic boost controller which I will probably be using for now. I also have a Joe P that I will be using for back up or inline with my cheapy.
Just trying to get a feel for what might work best when I am ready to upgrade to a fully functional one. Dan |
Re: Electronic Boost Controlers
The Blitz DSBC is popular in the 3S world. I have one in my stealth and I like it. I haven't had any problems. The only thing I don't like is the digital display. Analog gauges are easier to read, so in my Talon I went with a nice Apexi EL boost gauge (peak, warn, playback) and a manual Halman boost controller with the cockpit control. I like that better then the DSBC.
