Looking for a roll cage. Any thoughts?

Well I've already had to buy an approved fire jacket to run below 11.99 at the local tracks here. And since 11.49 is the limit for no cage, I guess it's time to start looking.

A simple bolt-in 4 or 6 point kit with a shoulder harness cross bar would be nice. And prepainted/powder coated would be a plus. And I need to be able to retain all the factory trim panels, etc (but would be willing to trim as needed). Yeah, I know I'm asking for alot. ;)

Any thoughts?

Gut the whale and toss in a 10 Point monstrosity!

Here's a good place for some rocking cages : http://www.cagesbydesign.com/

but seriously here is one online option. Might be eaiser to go to a local shop and have one bent and fitted.

I thought about it, but if Raptor ever wanted to get in it I would have to incorporate a swing out winch to help him clear the door bars. :D And where would I put his mobility scooter?.

That one Allan linked to said it can be bolted in. Is that allowed? I thought they had to be welded in place to pass inspection, with certain sized mounting plates, that way they are damn near certain it wont break off. Anyone know?

And do you have pics and descriptions of the ones you sell PSI2HI? I looked on your site but didn't find anything.

I'm trying to stay away from the "weld-in" stuff for several reasons.

Bolt-in would be fine for what I'm doing. I'm not running in a professional class. Most tracks only care to see if you have a cage in the car for the e.t.'s I'm turning (10.00-11.49).

Mph is gonna be a huge kicker as well not necessarily all ET. If your going to be trapping 135+ you better start looking @ a 10 point. Bolt in from my understanding wasn't 100% legal. most all bolt in cages are used for road race applications.

The ones we sell are standard weld in 8 point cages. Same one i ran in my 1G, same one in Kevin's and Burgess's DSM. Barton ran our cage in his car as well, idk if he ever posted pics though. I dont have them listed on the site right now as i dont wana be a huge item i push as their a PITA to ship but they are available.

You can do bolt-on, but it will weigh even more because you have twice as many 6"x6" plates.

Becuase this isnt tech and I cant get in trouble :) I opt for these: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...p-7401/c-10101

jk. Id say weld in would be a better choice because of weight but removing all the sound deadner and undercoating in certain areas will really suck.

Re: Looking for a roll cage. Any thoughts?

Once the bars are all welded together the cage isn't coming out w/o being cut up anyways so you might as well weld the plate down too.

Re: Looking for a roll cage. Any thoughts?

I know a weld in is the best way to go for weight and strength. I just didn't want to have to remove all of the carpet, padding, interior, dash, etc. to do welding and painting.

With a bolt-in kit I could check for fit and do the drilling and such, then paint it outside of the car and install it for good.

This is just the early stages of me trying to think this out, so I'm sure I'll change my mind in every direction several times. :)

I could really care less if it had a cage or not, just trying to have something in the car to be able to race it at the local tracks.

Your gonna have to remove it all anways to weld all the bars together. I know for a fact bolt together cages are not legal for any form of drag racing.

You're going to end up welding something in to be NHRA legal, might as well do it right. I had a custom one put in years ago to my specs and being NHRA legal down to 10.0. I painted it and was able to put in all panels and even the rear seats. I just cut out the side bar and am now adding a passenger side bar and swingouts on both sides. Taking the interior out and putting it back in is a weekend job at best.

Hey Steve I can cut the time down on taking the interior out. All out in 30 min or less or the work is free. Can't promise it will all go back in. ;)
