Comparing the Turbos

Hey, I know the Evo 3 16g Turbo is great for any DSM, but IF i were to go further...say...a t3/t4 turbo or the 18g turbo...yes, i know the mods I'll have to go through, but just wondering if someone can tell me which Turbo could be better or it's similarities like...the T3/T4 turbo or the 18g. I know the other mods to make a big turbo like that spool, but just wanna see if both turbos are just "similiar". I'm planning to to buy the Evo 16g, but just wondering about these bigger turbos if i want more power towards the future. Thanks.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

Read up on mitsu turbos, t3/t4 turbos, and the newer gt series turbos and make a decision for yourself. Being educated about what the different features of different turbos. Newer designs are more efficient, and sometimes more economical.

That being said, a evo3 16g is a great place to start, and there are a slew of other options out there whenever you're ready. Read, read, read, that's all I can say.

The EVO 16G is ok...don't think it's the end though. The 56trim is next!

I have an EVO 16G, love it. I did have the desire for a T3/T4, but really like the spool and overall streetability of it.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

The EVO 3 16G is very good, the 18G isn't. The next step up from the EVO 16G would be a 20G, the 18g would be a downgrade. There are a thousands of different T3/T4 combo possibilties, so saying T3/T4 is about as generic as saying Turbo. A T3/T4 might be anything from something about the same size as what you have now, to something that would be laggy on a Supra. You can do a Mitsu bolt-on versions of a lot of the T3/T4s, that would save some of the work and parts that are required to do a real T3/T4.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

Yeah, if you are looking for a good street turbo that is bigger than a EVO 16g, get a 20g (either TD05 or TD06) or a 50 trim PTE bolt on. Both are excellent turbos and are easy to put on. Elite has some excellent prices on the 50 trim for the winter.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

as an option to the 50-trim, a gt3251 or gt3255 might be nice too, supposed to spool a little better & flow just a bit more.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

The GT3251 is a little small, closer to a EVO 16G then a 50-trim. The GT3255 would be a possibilty for someone looking for something inbetween a 50-trim TO4E and the 56-trim GT35R comp wheel.

Oh, this sounds like tonight's internet search project. Thanks for getting me started again.

you can get an evo16g but you gonna hunger for more power...i say get a 50 trim or a 20g

Re: Comparing the Turbos

Isn't the 20g harder to spool? I'm not too sure how big it is but I have heard of the 20g not spooling correctly if you don't have the correct modifications for the engine, but thanks!

Re: Comparing the Turbos

Nah, a 20g isn't that big. Just a hair smaller than a 50 trim. Either are great street turbos. Nash made his 11.2 run on a small 20g, so they can make power too. 426 whp if I remember right. Spool should be roughly 3400-3600, add a hundred or two rpm for a 50 trim with a 76 trim exhaust wheel.

Re: Comparing the Turbos

Or if you are looking for something like the 20g/50trim and are concerned about spool, you ca always get an FP Green, pretty much a combo of the two that spools a little faster. That is also if you have the money to burn on it.

I personally will be keeping my EVO3 16G and spraying with it to get me 450hp range. But then that is just me being stubborn and not wanting to be like everyone else.
