spool up on a fp3065

anybody have a rough range where spool up starts and where full boost is seen with this turbo... using a 2.0 with 8.5 compression?

just intersted in streetability and i dont want too much lag

thanks

I would assume that would be a pretty laggy setup.

i guess i also forgot to mentioned very light flywheel to help revs climb a tad faster....

Lag is a very biased thing. I think that would be a decent setup with full 30 psi at about 4500 rpms on the street. That'd be fine for me but to you, who knows.

Cher, not everybody has their own personal supply of C16 race gas. ;)

If you are concered much with lag then look for something quite a bit smaller. Which size turbo are you used to currently? The light flywheel is only going to go through the RPMs quicker than normal when you have the clutch in or the tranny in neutral.

If you have to ask about spool time, it's too big for you. :p

On a sidenote, I was talking to the lead mechanic for Archer Brothers the other day and we were talking about spooling big turbos and flywheel weight. He said the flywheel weight makes a big difference in spool, I argued that light flywheels suck for drag racing. We didn't really get anywhere with the conversation past that.

thanks guys... i had a 20g that spooled around 36 to3800 rpms before...

i already have the 3065 i was just looking to see how its gonna feel.....

im really not too concerned with a little lag.. just trying to get an idea. there is a bit more done to my engine to support it also.

my car is stripped right now awaiting the new paint and a few upgrades when its ready for the engine to go back in.

i cant wait till spring! lol

Just like ball-bearing center sections make turbos spool 1000 RPMs quicker, putting your MAFT in blow through makes your turbo spool 500 RPMs quicker, fancy tubular manifolds make your turbo spool 1000 RPMs quicker, light flywheels make your turbo spool 500 rpms quicker, 2.4s make your turbo spool 1000 RPMs quicker, a picture of Steve in your rear view mirror makes your turbo spool 2000 RPMs quicker, etc. Soon you have a T66 that theoretically spools at 1000RPMs, then you dyno it and see that it spools just like everyone else with a similar less fancy setup.

Sometimes these big turbos spool a bit slower, but make more power at less boost, so the difference is not quite as bad.

Your 3065 would spool quicker than Shane's thats sitting on the engine stand.

I've heard/read nothing but good things about the FP bb turbos. I think the 3065 will be a great turbo for street/strip, with a very usable powerband.
