Similar to MN Dragways, maybe it will happen.

When I had my shop in Auburn Washington in the early 90's, we used to bitch about SIR being too much of a drive and there was a lot of talk about a new strip being put in around the area. The thing I remember about this was that it was the same kind of talk and responses from people as the whole MN Dragway thing. Not many believed it would ever happen including me. The internet wasn't a big deal back then so there wasn't much in the way of support that way, all the talk was just word of mouth through the racing circles.

Now, I go back to show Josh info on SIR and I keep seeing reference to this other strip. Turns out they did get it done and put the damn thing like 10 minutes from my old shop. GRRRR. At any rate, half of this is venting about that, the other half is that maybe there is some hope of getting a strip up locally within the not too distant future. We never would have believed it would happen out there either. More people, same issues with noise and there are even more tree huggers out there to fight it. Maybe we should all start putting a little support behind MN dragways and see if we can end up with a better place to run. One things for sure, it couldn't hurt and the more support it has, the better the chance of it coming to reality.

Hey, I would put forth whatever support I could offer. What do you think our best approach would be? I have signed all the stupid petitions and what-not.

Not sure, I am thinking it would be worth getting ahold of the guys behind it and seeing what would help. I will check, maybe there is something we can do to help it along. After seeing the other strip put up where it was, I have more faith in this possibly happening. Would be pretty sweet.

I know they were talking about doing it about 30-60 minutes south of the Twin Cities... any word on a more distinct location?

I could live with that. The one in Wa was put just out of the town limits which is an area similar to albertville. All burbs of Seattle/Tacoma.

The only problem with this is they've been talking about this for YEARS. If they do it, great, but I'll withhold my excitement until I see pictures of a cement truck pulling past a MN Dragways sign. I wish the old place was still around, it would only be about 10 minutes from my house. I went there a few times when I was a kid.

It would be nice to have a drag course within 60 min. I will give what support I can give.

Rock Falls is about 60 min from the cities, but it sucks.

They talked about the one in Wa for at least 6 years before it happened. We can all wait for someone else to get it done and it never will. Not that i think we all need to finance it or go rally with signs or anything, but at least showing support on the site and maybe some positive feedback would help. Sometimes if you want things to change, it requires getting involved to some degree.

Well, read the news on this link http://www.minnesotadragways.com/News.cfm It was updated on 12/04 and looks pretty promising. There is info in the first section of the page about the best way people can help this happen, it involves going to public zoning meeting to show support. I am going to go, anyone else that wants this to happen should come with. If we show up with a lot of support (As many as possible), it is likely this will happen. Or we can not do anything and bitch about the rock being to slippery and everywhere else being too far.

Seeing the strip happen in Washington made me think this is not only possible but probable. There is a lot more support for this strip and enough serious people that I am sure it will happen.

Huh...That does sound pretty promising. Mike, if you find out when that zoning meeting is, lemme know. I would be willing to go. If not for MN racing, then just to satisfy my own curiosity.
