BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Vicious fired up on the touch of the key and puuurrrrrs like a kitten, but that kitten will be a tiger soon,.............. :D Pics and mod list will be coming soon, but I'm ready to go drive and get this break-in period over. |

Just out of curiosity, am I correct in saying that I see both a MAF translator along with a 2G MAS on your intake?

Re: It's Aaaaaallllllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee !!!!!!!
I've been so busy with the fun of finally driving it after sitting for a year, I didn't really get into detail about how it's going.
This is how it went for me. Car on the lift, wheels off the ground. All fluids filled. Fired up the fuel pump via DSMLink. No fuel leaks, good pressure. Unplugged the CAS, no plugs in the engine, spun her over 10 seconds at a time untl oil pressure came up and oil was coming out of the lifters. Installed the plugs, stock ignition and reconnected the CAS. Time to go for it. As soon as I turned the key and the engine began to turn over she fired off and never missed a beat. Down right scared the crap out of me because I expected to have to crank her over a little to fire up. Not this time, literally as soon as the engine turned she fired up over 1000 rpm and came back to idle. I'm telling you it was better than sex. One good puff of blue smoke right immediately after start-up from the exhaust due to assembly. Lasted less than a minute and hasn't smoked since. All gauges reading good, I slowly ran her through the gears on the lift with light accelerator action. This was done per TRE's instructions because as they told me there are parts in the trans that only get lubricated when you drive the car and not to let it idle for long prior to doing this. Brought the wheels back to a stop. Made sure coolant was full. I let the engine idle long enough to get up to operating temp and set base timing. Shut her off. Checked fluids for any sign of a problem. Looking great so far. Swapped over to the COP system because I had no where to mount the stock ignition. Put her on the ground and went for a drive. For those wondering how I'm breaking the engine in, here it is. Everybody has an opinion about this and this is how I chose to do it. Cranked the engine on Valvoline HPO 30w (converntional oil). BG Synchroshift II in the transmission. After setting base timing I took it out on the streets. Slowly bring in up through the gears to about 3000 rpm. Once in 4th gear I gave about 30% throttle up to 5500 rpm and then let it coast back down. Repeated this 3 times. Then in 4th gear again I gave 50% throttle and brought her up to 6500 rpm and let it coast back down. It was tough to keep it out of boost so I kept backing down the throttle and still hitting a couple psi through the pulls. Repeated this 3 times. Not once did I really ever see any blue smoke on accel or decel. Put it back on the lift. No leaks and all fluids look good. Drained the oil. No abnormal metal on my magnetic drain plug, only the fine metal "powder" I would expect to see on a new engine during break in. Pulled the oil filter, no metal to be seen. Installed new oil filter. Filled it back up with Valvoline 20w50 Racing Oil (conventional oil) and installed new filter. I have about 100 miles of varied driving on the engine now and it only seems to be getting better the more I drive it. I'm progressively taking it up higher through the gears. I've been hitting 6500-7500 at times now when traffic and conditions allow. To answer the question some of you probably have about the oil weight and when and why I changed it, here are my feelings about it. I chose 30w for several reasons. 1. It flows extremely well, especially when cold. So it gets to all those important places inside of an engine as soon as possible. What oil's not under pressure (after leaving the bearings, lash adjusters, followers) gets splashed around extremely well. This is very important for the cylinder walls and valve train. 2. It's thinner so it washes the inside of the engine very well early on. This to me is very important. No matter how careful you are, there is still some form of trash (lint, dust, etc.) inside of an engine when being assembled. So I want it removed by the oil and caught by the oil filter as soon as possible instead of being rubbed between parts. If everyhting keeps going well, I'll change the oil at 200 miles with the same 20w50 and a new filter. I'll also change out the transmission fluid with more BG Syncroshift II. I didn't change the transmission fluid after the first drive because 95% of my transmission is the same as before it went to TRE. All gears are broken in already. If there are no problems at 500 miles, I'll put in Mobil1 and new filter. Then I'll start tuning. |

Re: It's Aaaaaallllllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee !!!!!!!
Similar to how we break them in. We also use 30w conventional oil (non wax based) and do vac pulls as soon as possible on the highway. The only difference is we typically change the oil at 100 miles, retorque head studs and then change it again to mobil1 at 500. We keep it 30w until the 500 mile change. Works very well.
Glad to hear it is working out so well MIke! |
