S-AFC I vs S-AFC II

So I'll be getting an afc pretty soon and I just wanted to know whats the differences between the two. I know that the afc II has a few more functions, but I dont really know how much of a difference it'll make. My brother in law just got a power fc for his car and he said that he'll give me his afc I if I wanted it. If the afc II is much better, than I'll think about upgrading the afc I sometime next spring.

off the top of my head, the afc2 has like 11? rpm adjustment points (the afc1 has 8?) it also has a password protect function i believe, it has a knock sensor function that no one hooks up because its crap. it also has memory for multiple fuel maps (i.e. one for pump, one for race) but i think the memory likes to clear itself sometimes for no reason.

i have a 5 knob! it was 50 bucks. wooooot

5 Knobbys RULE!

And they do a cool NightRider scanning right when you start the car ;)

So they're pretty much the same then, right? It wouldnt hurt to have one over the other?

what is a 5 knob?

There's actually 3 generations of AFC's. There' s the old school one with 5 knob adjustments that lets you go -+30% at 5 rpm spots. There's a first gen blue screen with adjustments that you can make 5 or 6 adjustments between 500 rpm increments and upto +-40 % I believe, then there is the SAFC2 which you can adjust in 300 rpm increments I believe upto 8 points in your rpm band and -+50%. All of them work fine.

Doesn't the SAFC-I require you to go back after you add/minus fuel? As where the SAFC-II you can just change it and leave the screen on the table.

Four generations actually, the first was just a single adjustment knob for the entire RPM range. The first blinky-blue was +-50% too. The one distinct advantage both blinky-blues have over the 5-knob is the high/low throttle setting. With that said, I used the 5-knob and it worked perfectly, but is a lot simpler and faster to adjust/tune.

I guess I'm gonna go with the S-AFC I since I can get that one for free. Are their any harnesses I'll need to buy. This S-AFC was used on a 240sx, so I'm guessing I'll need to buy some type of harness.

They are universal, just make sure you get the installation manual from it and make sure it has the correct info for your car. I am sure the VFAQ should have the all the wires needed too. If you follow the AFC install manual for the pinout on the Mitsu ECU ignore the tach reference it says for the 1G's as it is incorrect and will only read half of the actual RPM, just use the VFAQ as a reference for that wire.

Don't you just put it on 2cyc than? I thought it was something like that.

You can't happen to get an extra free SAFC, can ya?

Apexi's website I believe has the installation manual if you search around.

Yeah, that would work too, but I am anal to the point where I would want everything hooked up right and all the settings correct.

Changing the setting to 2-cyl works just fine.

Thats how I am also. If I'm going to do something, I might as well do it near perfect and right the first time.

No, I dont have another one. I'm lucky enough to get this one from my brother in law. Makes me like him more than I do now...haha.
