Help with a Macintosh PowerMac G4

It will NOT power up. Checked the supply, the breaker, the powerstrip, fuses, the whole 9 yards. It'll light up (power button) for just a sec, then it goes dead...

Any ideas?

ouch, thats what my PS2 did when it died

Did you try swapping out batteries? I know they're expensive... (like $130 from www.apple.com) but it could be that.

Just take it to the Genius Bar at the MOA and they can help diagnose it.

Um, Dane. He is talking about a powermac, not a powerbook. I think you should take it to the Apple store or check www.apple.com for any hints to what could be causing the problem.

Yeah, I just noticed that.

Tried to take it to www.apple.com and nothing...

I guess I'll just take it to the store and pay out THE ASS to get if fixed.

IndiEP 12-08-2004 12:15 AM

Do you still have the apple care plan? You should be treated like royalty if you do.

Raptor 12-08-2004 12:40 AM

Take the BFH to it, its a Mac, if that doesn't fix it, throw it out ;)

Khadgar 12-08-2004 12:42 AM

try http://www.macfixit.com it's helped me with a lot of thigns like that, otherwise if you are still having trouble i have a friend i can ask who will probably know.

A//// Guy 12-08-2004 01:39 AM

Yea take it in or take Mikes suggestion about the BFH ;) haha.

JDM 12-08-2004 02:42 AM

I'm about 5 seconds from taking Raptor's advice...

SuperSleeper 12-08-2004 03:36 AM

Honestly, it sounds like something's wrong with the board... :(

scheides 12-08-2004 09:01 AM

You should ditch it and get a p-p-p-powerbook!

Khadgar 12-08-2004 11:51 AM

Can you still reset the pram on those? (command option PR on startup)

tpunx99GSX 12-08-2004 04:26 PM

macs = complete waste of money for yuppies with low self esteem.
The worst comment someone can make is "My mac is better then your PC anyday"
PC>MAC Linux <= Windows (until i can be able to play CS on linux or get the bugs out of the damn OS)

SuperSleeper 12-08-2004 04:35 PM

Wow Tom, that was quite an intelligent post.

Let's try to stay on topic.

tsiawdspeed 12-08-2004 04:42 PM

I was just thinking, maybe the memory is bad. Similar things would happen when someone would try to install the new OS on an old ass iMac and the install messed up the memory. It may be worth it to buy a new stick of memory and give it a shot.

Okay, try this. Unplug the computer from the wall for a few minutes and then try to start it. If nothing, unplug the power supply from the main board for a few minutes and then try to power up. Also re-set the pram, can't remember how at the moment. It sounds really wierd but thats what my friend told me based on the info I had.

If you haven't already, go to mac's site, suport area and look up your particular G4 and there'll be trouble shooting info. Hope this helps.

And according to Tom, pretty much all recording studios and video production houses have low self esteem

Yeah I mentioned how to reset the pram in my post, otherwise check the battery on the mobo, sometimes when those die you can't start up I think.
