High Risk insurance companies...

I know this has probably been covered before, but I need some more opinions. I was under the impression that I was able to get insured under my parents... but they later discovered today that the insurance company will only cover my under my own "high risk" plan at $260/mo for Liability only. (This is for State Farm)

Wondering if anyone else with a bad record has any suggestions as to where to get a quote. I really need to be insured as of Monday so I can get to my new job in Bloomington.

Progressive is the best with high risk people. Well I shouldn't say the best, but the cheapest.

CRAIG

Good. My girlfriend's mom works for Progressive... hopefully I can get a quote tomorrow.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, let me know. Thanks.

You could check out ProKop insurance, I hear them on the radio all the time and they specialize in high risk drivers.

carltalon 12-03-2004 09:40 PM

progressive is probly the way to go I have 3 speeding tickets and pay 260/month for my truck (99 f-250 full coverage) and car (90 tsi liability)

dylan 12-03-2004 11:08 PM

steer clear of metlife. they rape you to no end.

Pimpin Dsmstyle 12-03-2004 11:39 PM

same position for me.. i pay 240 a month and thats just for liability and all i have is one minor accident and no traffic violations... i should really look into that shit.

I used prokop for like 6-7 years, they deal with like 10 different companies, and will find the best rate out of them all.The guy who owns it is a cool guy, and always did what he could to help me find the best rates.

Progessive is cheap, but if you make a claim, they will take their damn time paying out.I don't know if it just me, but they seem to investigate the shit out of everything.I've made 2 comp claims to progressive, after fuckheads have broken into my car, first time took 1 1/2 months to cut me a check. The second time, it was like 3 months.I had to go through 3 interrogations, one of them felt like I just murdered someone and was talking to the police. They even took a ton of pics of me(hanging out on my balcony and walking around my complex) and my apartment building from every angle possible, and I didn't even know it.Anyway I finally had to get a lawyer to get on their ass and they finally paid.I'm assuming they're cheap because the investigate everything and have probably eliminated alot of fraud cases.

They also have a thing called Tripsense now.If you have a 96+ OBDII vehicle, the send you a logger that plugs into the OBD port, and you upload them the info every 6 months. As long as you don't speed or drive a shitload of miles, it will lower their rates by 25%.

This is the only time i'll ever agree. I'm a very high risk person and i've had great luck with them.

SuperSleeper 12-04-2004 08:02 AM

Well turns out that Progressive is actually more expensive than State Farm. My mom may have had the #s a little off for SF, but Progressive quoted me $285/mo. Either way I'm screwed, but thanks for the help.

I'm gonna try out ProKop too... I remember always wanting to call them after I heard their commercials on the radio. I'll give an update on what I find out, so others can use the information for their own situations.

SuperSleeper 12-04-2004 02:11 PM

My girlfriend's mom looked for other insurance providers through Progressive, and found that I can get insurance for $244/mo through a smaller company (can't remember the name)

ProKop Roseville is calling me Monday with a quote. We'll see what that ends up being...

Jakey 12-04-2004 02:24 PM

How long do you have to run high risk?

SuperSleeper 12-04-2004 02:46 PM

Until I'm clear for the length of time the insurance company looks at for driving history. Typically between 24-36 months. It will be 24 months on July 31st. So anywhere from 1 to 1.5 yrs. (assuming I don't get busted anymore)

JET 12-04-2004 04:35 PM

Check out Allstate, they were the cheapest when I had 4 tickets on my record.

What do you have on your record if you have been clean for 24 months?

SuperSleeper 12-04-2004 05:16 PM

You have to be clean for the past 24 mos, or it checks your history for the previous 36mos (or at least that's how I understand it)
My record includes:
10 or more over--12/28/02
10 or more over--3/1/03
10 or more over--5/5/03
Fleeing an officer--7/30/03

I'll check out Allstate tonight if they have 24hr quotes.

I actually switched to Progressive this year, as it saved me over $500 every six months. I've never had to have a claim, so I don't anticipate any problems, and the savings was very nice.

95tsi 12-04-2004 11:55 PM

I have State Farm and pay around $80/month for my daily driver with liability only (tempo, no laughing) and $45/ month for liability and comp on my '95 Talon. But, I'm under 25 with one speeding ticket on record and no acci's. So far they have been great to deal with.

520Talon 12-05-2004 10:18 AM

State Farm almost pulled my homeowners insurance because of my record and wouldn't insure me at all on my cars. I went to progressive and have been there for the last 5-6 years. I have had no problems, but I haven't had any accidents or tickets either. My rates went from $180/month liability on an Integra to $530/month full coverage on a A4 (wish I would have known ahead of time) to 220/month now for the A4/Savanna/Talon liability. It will drop to $172 a month for full coverage when I close on this house and switch to (forgot what company). It is good to be old and have no tickets. It saves me over $300 a month from what I used to pay.

SuperSleeper 12-06-2004 09:02 AM

Just an update:
Allstate quoted approx $350/mo for liability only. Geico quoted nearly the same.

Sounds like I'm going with Mendota Insurance through a Progressive agent. Best deal I've found by nearly $20/mo.
