Anyone here working in the Information Technology field?
Well i work at a Bank in the Information Technology department as a Network Administrator. What does everyone else do to fund their hobbies?
|
That's like asking if anyone here likes cars.

i work for a slave driving company.. thats requiring all sallary employe's to work 55hrs / week, if you don't its reflected on your review.
I do software packaging, wraping, distribution thru SMS, Zenworks, Tivoly and custom software distribution software that we have in many of our enviroments, along that now i found out that i am responsible to maintaining a test lab that we don't have, and making sure that the machines that we don't have curently have all the latest software installed and are ready for testing of the software that we have packaged (that we haven't received yet to get packaged) Along with sucessfully closing and resolving every 4th level support call that comes in (by the time it comes to me its allready been looked by everyone else and they weren't able to fisk it, minimum of 10 hours of work on the call before it comes to me) so which means it will take me at least 2 to 3 hours to get it fisked or more. Yay, my day is going great, but at least i'm healthy and sane (debatable) not much longer tho. -E |
I help franchise owners keep their computers operating. If it's too bad I connect to their computers through copper and make things worse... I mean, fix them.

Dam ENES. I work with Novell too. I administrate a Novell 6.5 environment. I'm working Zenworks now. I love the remote desktop support. Nice not to hafta get out of my chair and help someone out when i can do it remotely. I also started doing some of the software packaging for creating custom .msi files and distributing through Nalwin. Being that this is bank, things are very stable. I have time to do research. Building another branch that we purchased land for. Deciding on whether to stick with PBX or go IP Phones.
A few years ago, i worked for Katun in Bloomington. Huge company. Loved the job, hated management hence the reason i quit. The same time i was offered that job i was also offered a job at OPUS Corp. More money but Hopkins was too far for me to drive from Burnsville. |
yea, i love MSi's thats what i make every day/ all day mostly..
what company do you work for? and enable your private messages... -E |
I work for CAM Commerce Solutions doing help desk support for retail Point of Sale software. I deal with retail people that know nothing about computers, my life sucks someone shoot me. but at least i got a raise last week. WooT.

I work for a bank in Abbotsford(small town, 1500 people max). I got like the only DSM here. I like .msi files too. If i did that all day, i don't know if i would love it or get bored with it. :-) You must use something like AdminStudio 5.5. I enabled my PM's. |
Yes, i use admin studio 5.5, i have created about hmm.. 1400 msi packages +/- few.. curently in our enviroment we have over 4500 different applications that i support.
we have sms as well as zenworks as main distribution systems. i love Zen, but unfortunately it is going away from use here at ING and IBM. mostly due to IBM not carying of if it works, because they don't make any money from it, they want to use something that won't work, aka Tivoly, because it sells their product, even tho the customer is lacking the features and usability and quality, they are still going ahead with their product becaus that will make them 29 mil over next 7 years -E |
Network Administrator, in charge of lots of linux machines and very few windows machines--no .msi nightmares for me lately!
I do mostly hosting, network deployment, and administration, and support. Sometimes people look at me funny if I have been working on my dsm (dirty fingernales, or whatever), but hey, what are you gonna do? -scheides |
Used to work in the tech area of phone systems, call routing using TCS/Aspect Series 5 and variou forums of call monitoring, routing, scheduling, and some other shit. Then did the warehouse shit, the cust service shit again, and then with Mike and Josh and Jana started QPR. We have since left QPR and in about a week I should be starting a new job holding a gun and watching and counting a fuck load of $$$$. WooT!

I work in IT... part time while I go to school to get my bachelors in CS. less than 1.5 years left before I join all you in the real world of IT.
Right now I work for a Network admin, Im pretty much his assistant, its cool. Easy work, pretty much have to just deal with people that dont know anything about computers and fixing things when they break them haha. |
Phone systems tech? Hmmm, we might have some part-time work for you in a start-up company me and a partner are putting together.
|
Phone systems must be a good business to be in. We're looking for a new phone system at work and one which was recently priced out for us was right around 250 g's and we only have roughly 100 people throughout the company.
|
Installers dont get the money though... the real money goes to the tele makers and the service providers, especially stepping up to IP phone systems.
|
Anyone with any Lucent knowledge can make some good money. That's what I delt with mostly, and our entire IT department had one person who know what we had to deal with. So she tought those of us who had to work with the clients and management to explain how shit comes in, how it should be routed, setting up call groups, and the list goes on and on. Installers had to do the PITA work but said in done playing with routers and shit being and being able to fuck with people on phone lines was a blast and fun to learn.
