56k? Does anyone else still actually use this shit?

I am back home in IA for the rest of the week/weekend and at my parents house using a blistfully speedy gateway (ok, maybe not so bliss) and the local 56k dial up. OH MY this is some slow shit. Why does reg 56k even still an option? Seriously I can go watch a segment of the midnight sitcom rerun before a page loads here.

Anyway have a happy Thanksgiving everyone, and if your traveling drive carefull. Not only am I gonna try and land a job when I get back to MN, but I think a pre-winter event is needed as well. I should be bringin back ALOT of steak and hamburger frm the folks as usual. Benifit of being a farm boy.

Mmm meat is always cheap down there. Iowa roxors!!! Some ppl dont care if they run 56k though. Take my parents for example. My dad could care less, he coulda been runnin on 56k till the cows came home. But luckly they caved and gave in to dsl... may not be as fast as some stuff but it sure works better then the 56k stuff thats for sure.

My parent's are the only people that I know still use 56k. Every time they come to my house and use mine they say they are going to switch but never do

Halon 11-25-2004 10:59 AM

I used 56k here up until about 2 weeks ago. That was the best service that was offered here. They talk about how technologically advanced Japan is... psshh ya ok. My buddy was one of the first on this base that was hooked up on cable internet. Then he bought a wireless router, and buh bam, I and a few others just tap off him!!

unreal808 11-25-2004 11:24 AM

I still have 56k.

DSM1G 11-25-2004 12:18 PM

I thought you couldnt swear in the subject title when starting a new thread?

DSM1G, It is ok in its context.

DSMStyle if you got nothing to do I need someone to drive my Audi to Pheonix. I'll float you some cash and a plane ticket and if you wanted you could stay down for a while and put together a bankroll. There are a ton of wolk in one day and work the next type of jobs that pay well down there. I got on being a plumbing forman and I know very little about plumbing. All I have to do is make sure the workers are going deep enough with the main lines and are putting in the roughins to the right spot (all slab on grade constrution) and be able to speak english with the city permit guys. Only $15 per, but it is enough to keep me eating untill I finish my AZ real estate liscence. There arn't enough people to keep up with everything going on down there.

AJ 11-25-2004 03:16 PM

Eric, I may be game for that. PM me your # and a good time to call you down there.

AJ 11-25-2004 03:17 PM

I'd PM you but you PMs are not turned on. Go to your cp user panel and activate them.

GSXMatt 11-25-2004 03:32 PM

Wait wait wait. So a meet sometime soon? Did I catch that right?

AJ 11-25-2004 06:03 PM

Yeah, after the holiday weekend we will look at setting something up.

SpicyOrange 11-25-2004 07:11 PM

I just recently got High-speed cable since dial-up was the only choice besides satellite (which is $$$) and I lived in IGH, now I live in a different part so I can get Cable.

john 11-26-2004 07:28 PM

I have 56k

INTRIGUED 11-26-2004 08:39 PM

I could never go back to dial up. Cable is just to nice, I remember when I had dial up. You could sit online for an hour do minor things. Now with cable, I can be done in like 15 - 20 minutes doing the same thing. I dont have the patients to sit there and wait for a page to load.

Shane@DBPerformance 11-27-2004 03:27 AM

I never even had 56k. Went from 28.8k to ISDN somewhere around 1995 and then on to DSL a when that was offered in my area. I did have a 300bps modem back in the 80s, being able to read faster than it could transmit plain text was fun.

SquackDiddy 11-27-2004 04:53 PM

i got 56k, only reason because its cheap, i think. 100 bucks a year, cheap?

Goat Blower 11-27-2004 10:13 PM

I'm at my in-laws in Duluth and they not only have 56K, they have AOL as their ISP. AOL sucks, I can't even get on NABR with this crap.
