Northern Lights

I dont know if anyone else noticed it tonight (around 7:00pm), but I could see the northern lights reallly well. Im in the southwestern metro area. Mainly green but a little pink/red too. Anyone else notice it?

I did...It's so weird looking..

I saw them heading home from a late-season race at Elko a couple years ago... Pretty damn strange when you look to the north and see a shimmering light in the sky, then stop and realize that you're actually watching the northern lights.

EDIT: I just looked outside and didn't see anything... Might be too bright where I'm at.

I'm in northern Duluth right now and just ran outside. It's very bright red to the north. Do you think that's God's shift light? Maybe overboost telling by the color.

umm ok religion and cars should never mix but yes i saw them they were some wierd form of snot green. I saw them up north one time it was like day at night they were so bright

Just got back from hayward, Wi. Almost all the way home I saw them, nice blues and reds. Ive only seen them once 2 years ago coming home from lakeville and they were over downtown.

I had the digital cam with me so Ill post a shot if any turned out!

Jana 11-07-2004 09:13 PM

I haven't been able to see them at all :(

A//// Guy 11-07-2004 10:16 PM

I cant post because my file is supposedly too big...

Even though I edited it down to 600X500... and its about a 60kb file and the site only accepts 36kb files? What kind of file are that small where you could realistcally upload something?

Shotgun! 11-07-2004 11:07 PM

They're now in the front yard...south. And blue...shift light color.

tsiawdspeed 11-07-2004 11:14 PM

I actually just got done taking a few pictures of the lights. If someone can hook me up with a host for 16 large pictures, I will post them.

PM MattD. I sent him mine but if you got better ones (mine just look like someone when into paint and used a green spray can haha) send them to him and hell put them up here.

I glanced over when I was on 694E on the way to work and was like "holy shit". They were almost all around me it seemed like. And the road was pretty dark in the spot I was in so they were even brighter.

Check out Nasa's SOHO website, they have pics and animations of the sun and its activity.Look at some of the archived animations, within the last few years, there have been some of the largest solar flares in recorded history

Anyplace that is fairly dark and has a good view of the northern sky.As far as time, it really hard to say. There has been a good solar storm going on for the last couple days, it takes 2-4 days for the solar wind to hit the earth, so there should be weaker auroras for at least another day or two.

Enes 11-08-2004 10:49 AM

i seen it also last night, it was pretty cool....

I am tempted to head up out of the city 50 miles or so where its pretty dark.. and just lay there on the back of the bed of the truck and enjoy some quiet time..
