90 TSi AWD, 160k, 60k on the motor. Tranny grinds in 2nd (obviously) and 4th (not as much), tranny problems do not matter since I have a built tranny and motor on the way. Newer clutch, new timing belt, new alternator. Body is absolutely mint on it. He is asking $2500 for it, but I think I might offer 2k in cash. What do you guys think? Compared to some of the absolute shit that is on dsmtrader for more than that, I think it's a good deal.

Edit: car's pretty much stock, has a hard intake pipe with K&N and a manual boost controller.

A guy on here is selling it on trader. I would check compression, see if the car smokes at all at WOT, and drive the car. See if the tranny is livable. If you are planning on swapping another engine and tranny, you may as well look for a shell (car minus motor and tranny). You should look for a 92+ as they have a 4 bolt rear. Why waste your money on parts you do not need?

Chris 10-26-2004 12:44 AM

I don't think it's on the trader, was in the paper locally. I'd be using the car for a winter car pending the sale of my truck. My other 1g is pretty much junk (auto, rust, motor half out). I drove it earlier and the tranny is something to get used to, but can handle it until spring when I put the new trans and motor in, I also have a 4 bolt sitting in my garage. Sorry, 92-94 are ugly, gotta have flip ups, I'm strange, yes. No smoke, no nothing, didn't take it WOT though cause the dude was in the car.

Yeah, if you have a motor/tranny I would just look for a shell.People practically give them away.

Kracka 10-26-2004 01:09 AM

A mint conditon body is well worth $2000 IMO, especially since you could make a lot of that back by selling off the stuff you don't need.

I agree with talonTSiDude, good bodies are hard to find. I drove to kansas for my car, with the sole intent of ripping it up in a year or so after driving it around. finding a solid body to start with is sometimes better than trying to save money.

I think somebidy should pick this one up. 92 Laser AWD It's in St. Paul, and the current bid is $162. There's not much info on it, so I'm not sure if it's 5 speed or not. It doesn't run, but it could be a good project for someone.

Hey! I have already been watching that one, so I have dibs on it! I am mainly looking at it as a parts car. Looking at the VIN #, I 'think' it is an auto. I am going to try and decipher the number tonight. At our house we always need DSM parts :D

So not to jump off topic too far but...
I realize I am from Iowa, but I'll be damned if I can find how one registers to purchase items off of those auctions?
