Well I've scrapped the DSM idea... and no Deloreans either... I've made arrangements to pick up an Evo in March... but a lot of people have been hailing the STi... What do you think??? :stick:

A//// Guy 11-17-2003 11:43 PM

I would get a Evo over an STi because its alot easier to mod.... no flat engine crap to deal with. I would personally take that 30k and buy a nice dsm and mod it.

yeah, I thought of that too... When I get a car... I'll LIGHTLY mod it as such in my 3G... Nothin major... I just like the idea of knowing that I will be in the car for every mile it gets on it... (I will be along for the 2 mile pre-test)

Get the STi.

90Turbolaser 11-18-2003 12:16 AM

Go with the STi They look so much better than the EVO and I think will out perform it as well. just the way they look is cocky as hell

Iceman 11-18-2003 12:27 AM

2.5 > 2.0 Go STI for sure...

Halon 11-18-2003 12:39 AM

just gotta go with what u like man. I like the evo's cuz i mean, i already have learned so much about the 4g63, and have become familiar with the dsm scene. And damn near all the dsm vendors are sellin EVO stuff now too, so if u have a vendor u prefer, then u can prolly continue to go through them. Also the engine layout is easier i think. inline 4, pretty simple to me. The STi engine might be simple to sumone else, but not to me. So maybe to you, u might find the STi setup to be much nicer and easier for u to get familiar with. It's all up to you man. PLUS REMEMBER, once ur clutch goes out on the evo, ur on your own, they won't give u any warantee at all for it. Took my buddy just under 8k till his started slipping. For some reason they couldn't resurface the flywheel, so he had to purchase a new one of those too. not a fun little event that was. I dunno how subaru's customer service is, but i really don't like mitsu's service. But i still love dsm's, i just don't get the car worked on at the dealer cuz they can be hard core dicks. STi has better interior, MUCH MUCH meaner sounding exhaust, more power, bigger motor.... EVO has easier engine layout, better road coarse times, looks nicer to me, dsm shops we already are familiar with have tons of mods for them. I dunno man, just all depends on u, ull love either one

If you read SCC they have done a gazillion test between the two, not only track performance but give good insight how they perform day to day and which they feel is better for different intentions. Just check the issues around the sti release and prior the the evo release and a little afterwards. Hope this helps.

AJ 11-18-2003 12:59 AM

EVO! they are already in the 11s with the stock turbo. Not sure on the WRXs as I don't follow them.

LightningGSX 11-18-2003 01:04 AM

If you get an EVO plan on putting a new clutch in after 10k miles, I know a couple of people with new EVO's and the clutch went out around 10k and Mitsu will not warranty.

Maybe if the owners wouldn't beat the shit outta their cars, Mitsu would be nicer about warrantys. :fworld:

EVO- I will be pushing around a 46g3 till I die, easy to work on and easy to mod, the same way I feel about the chev 350 V8 ! the sti from what I seen dont have any better of a transmission and a goofy flat eng. but as long as your happy the EVO or the sti thay are cool and not a neon.

Iceman 11-18-2003 05:20 AM

The presure plate in the STI has had numours problems i have heard...

john 11-18-2003 07:00 AM

I would get the evo. I like the styling better and I know that the 4g63 motor will be able to produce quick 1/4 mile times. Along with everyone else, I think it would be easier to work on.

On the other hand, I would love to get the sti for awd burnouts as they talked about in SCC. It is faster than the evo if you do not plan on modding it much.

BTW, other than eclipse turbo and all the autos, who doesn't launch their awd car hard? The clutch is bound to go when you make a decent amount of power like the sti or evo. All it takes is a few bad launches (cough Iceman cough).

I plan on buying an STi sometime next year. I first thought about an Evo, but I just don;t like the drivetrain layout of them. There's something about a transverse engine with awd that just doesn't seem right. I think it adds alot of extra weight just to strengthen everything enough to be reliable. Personally, I could care less about 1/4 mile times or 0-60 times. Both cars are fast. I think the STi is more suited for daily driving as well. It's a little more comfortable from what the magazines have said. Styling depends on who's looking at the car. Personally I love the looks of the STi. It's clean and aggressive. I'm not a huge fan of the wing and the hood scoop, but at least both are functional. The Evo looks cool, but at the same time it looks kind of goofy too. I just don't like the big triangle mitsubishi logo in the middle of the grill. I agree with everyone else though, in that you should buy what works best for you.

tpunx99GSX 11-18-2003 08:48 AM

id get an evo and swap the sti engine in it, YOU HAVE TO LOVE THAT FUCKING SOUND, it just purrs and gives me chills.

ACRucrazy 11-18-2003 09:39 AM

Id look into an EVO RS, but would probably get the STI...
They sound so bad ass! Tehehe...

ABV 11-18-2003 10:03 AM

Who knows why they sound so bad ass? Anybody... Nobody... It's the flat four baby.

2003eclipse 11-18-2003 12:45 PM

okay KIEL go buy a house. your alreay 60,000 in debt.
and the way the sti sounds, have you heard ryan hables evo yet??? hmm buy car that comes with a radio stock. why should a dealer cover a clutch on a sports car?

Kracka 11-18-2003 03:36 PM

EVO....with the restrictor removed it will make more power than the STi does. Not to mention the EVO corners, handles, and brakes better than the STi (and comes with a radio).
