Hey guys whats up I am about to buy a 1990 Plymouth Laser FWD Tubro car with 89000 miles on it. This will be my first DSM i have ever owned. I was wondering what I can do in terms of cheap upgrades or performance enhancers. The car itself runs strong and the turbo hits hard. Im am buy it for 2000 and it of course that maroon color which isn't all that great but its a clean car. Anyway any ideas would greatly be appreciated. :dsmrule: :woowoo:

Rewire the fuel pump, hack the MAS, and get a boost controller. Then sell it and get an AWD drive cause you aren't going to be able to keep tires on it.
The 1G guys will be able to tell you more probably but I know on a 1G a boost controller is big difference maker. The JOE P MBC seems to be a popular one to get and they are only like 45-50 dollars. |

that might help, and good luck w/ the car. |
Yeah, you will have yourself quite the burnout machine in that fwd laser. What are your goals for the car? If it is drag racing, you may want to wait and get an AWD. If it is for highway racing, go FWD. Stock, you can shread the tires off a fwd.

Don't hack the MAS yourself if you don't know what your doing. I'd start with an Intake (new K&N Filter and cut your can around the filter open a bit. Get a aftermarket Boost gauge and boost controller. Elite also has these locally.
From there get an exhaust. If you never want to see 11s go with 2.5 inch and save money over a 3 inch system. I'd get a downpipei at the same time. Form there, IC piping, clutch, and well the list goes on and on. |
The only problem is I am going to have to by tires for it right after I get it. I was wondering what are some cheap but decent tires. Ideas? :3gears:

Kumho 712s, if you wanna know how to make a Laser fast for no money at all just PM "santa"
|
I have a used stock KN filter if your looking for a cheap upgrade...
Tires Id personally get Yokohama ES100's or Sumitomo HTZRII's. Very sticky and cheap. www.tirerack.com Ive heard bad things abouthte Kuhmo 712s... I guess they dont corner well at all. Other than that they are ok. |

k&n/tURBO BACK EXHAUST/UICP/MBC WOULD BE A GOOD START
i HAVE A TURBO-BACK EXHAUST OFF MY OLD 90 lASER i WOULD SELL YOU IF YOUR INTERESTED. bUSCHUR DOWNPIPE & CAT BYPASS 2 1/2" tHERMAL rESEARCH & dESIGN CATBACK 3" |
Somebody needs to turn off the caps lock!!! J/K Bryan (sp?).
Kuhmo 712's are awesome for handling on dry tar but suck on wet tar. I had a set on my 93 and raced it at St. Cloud. I did everything I could to get it to break the tires loose in the corners but to no avail. They squalled like crazy but never let loose. They are a very soft compound and very cheap. Terina got some Conti-Extreme Contact's on her 92 and she loves them!! They were something like $88 each, mounted and balanced. You may find them a slight bit cheaper in the magazines but you have to add the shipping charges as well. I have Potenza RE910's on mine and they've been great. They are about $100-110 a piece. I've heard good things about the Yoko's as well. |
a good suspention set up will help w/launching, theres other things you can add to like slicks/lsd but it depends on your plans/attatchment to the car and most of all $$$

If you're on a budget....
Cut the air box... Remove the fog lights (if you got em) to open up a path to the IC Open up the Boost Control Solenoid (BCS) Gut the Cat There's a few other free mods If it's not a daily... talk to raptor about weight reduction |
yeah this is going to be a daily driver. but I would still like it to be have decent power. Not saying that 195 isn't but a little mor that stock. What about upgrading the BOV? :dsmrule:
|
You have the best stock BOV you can get... You intersted in that filter?

Any of the upgrades people mentioned here are a good starting point for your "Fricken Laser" Good luck on the buy and happy modding -Brian- |
Leave the blow off valve alone... That upgrade is for ricer boys like me... and I don't even have a turbo... Work on moving air... then fuel... then manage the two so you don't blow your car up... I just talked to a kid from WI who used a hammer to smash the BOV, then used an MBC and tried to tune 15lbs to the stock psi meter... Can you say head gasket... dumbass... Anyway... If you want some decent speed at a good price, talk to Chur or Raptor... That's where I would start... But you have come to the right place... There are plenty of good brains to be tapped here... Just keep asking questions...
