Do any of you think that it would be at all worth it to do a 2g engine swap? The only things I have heard that were wrong with the 2gs is were where the crank is bolted? If I came across the engine and the body I would be totally comitted into doing it besides needing the money and the time and the know-how. Gimme your thoughts..

First, why do you want a 2g engine swap in your 1g? Just because it's a newer engine doesn't make it better.

The 2g engine is what's called a 7-bolt, which means there are 7 bolts holding the flywheel to the crankshaft. The 7-bolt was introduced in late 1992. Every turbo 2.0 engine before that was a 6-bolt. The 6-bolt engines are better as they are not as prone to crankwalking, which is why the 7-bolt engines are always swapped out for the 6-bolt variety. Head to www.dsm.org for more information.

If you find a 2g body, LMK. They are pretty hard to come by.

Not worth throwing a 7 bolt in any car unless you have one laying around and a bit of spare time. Not worth purchasing.

Be more specific with what you want to know. Are you looking at a 2G engine in a 1G or the other way around?

TsiEagleTalon92 10-10-2004 01:07 PM

I know 7-bolts are shit I have always known that. I'm saying if I ever came across the body and a 6-bolt engine would it be a point to doing so? But.. it is good to kno that I made a mistake I meant to say if I came across a 6-b. The things that I am wondering about is that is there anything underneath the hood that changed when the cars changed to the second gen? like hookups and any major changes where things were placed?.. But to recap 2g body - 6-Bolt engine

2G bodys are heavy and they rust like crazy.

Hmm ok so a 1990 car has the same rust as a newer 1998 car? Yea they both have equal rust resistance...

This 6 bolt has been well worth it. .Compared to the 3 7bolts we had in it before.
