A manual boost controller is a manual boost controller. None are more powerful than another. I prefer the Hallman for ease of use and awesome customer service.

is a mbc suposed to bleed air before it hits full boost? mine will start leaking around 14psi and up..

That was my mindset as well when I bought 2 different style Ebay MBC's. Whatta waste of money on my part. Never again. Get something made by someone reputable.

Also make sure you get a ball/spring design, bleeder-valves are bad.

Mine has a bleeder hole under the screw knob and I was leak testing my setup and noticed that the hole leaks precious boost..

Does anyone know why they need a bleeder hole, because technically that is a nice boost leak.

I have a joe p.

Get a Hallman. I may have a extra if you haven't ordered one yet. You could also make your own if you want.

Peter- They sometimes drill a hole on the "outlet" or wastegate side of the mbc. That is a good thing. It releases the pressure when you get off the gas (whenever the bov goes off) and allows the wastegate flapper to close quicker. If there is not a bleed hole, it takes longer to close the wastegate as the gasses are holding it open. I have not noticed a difference in them though (hole vs. no hole mbc).

john 09-10-2004 12:23 PM

BTW, the hole will only leak if you are at/past your desired boost level. Meaning that it should leak in a boost leak test when you pass the level of boost you have the mbc set to.

A//// Guy 09-10-2004 01:03 PM

Mine was set at 10 and I did the leak test onnly up to around 5-8 as other parts were leaking...

john 09-10-2004 01:07 PM

It should not leak then as the hole sees no boost until the boost controller is opened. You could have your boost controler out too where the boost controller is doing nothing at all. Meaning it would leak at a normal rate. If you have the mbc set to 10 psi, it shouldn't leak. Do you get what I am trying to say? You are probly letting the wastegate actuator set the boost instead of the mbc.

A//// Guy 09-10-2004 01:16 PM

The line going into the MBC is coming from the IM. The hole is right in the brass, above the part where the rubber inlet line connects to the brass inlet.

I dont know why it wouldnt leak unless I hooked it up wrong.. but then it wouldnt work and Ive set the boost up and down from 17psi to 10.

AJ 09-10-2004 01:31 PM

We don't use any MBC other than the one from Elite. Gotta go with that works, is local, and is cost effective.

chengsta 09-11-2004 07:55 PM

k thanks, i'll look into getting a JOE P MBC...

Super Bleeder!! 09-11-2004 08:19 PM

or you could drive over to Elite Auto in minneapolis and get one for less money, that works as well, the same day!!
