Today I threw a CEL and I have no idea what it could be. I am wondering if anyone has a 2G logger in the metro areathat I can borrow to see what is causing the CEL? I would like to borrow it later tonight, tomorrow or early monday. Thanks

I have one somewhere. Where are you located? Are you venting a bov or something?

SuperSleeper 09-05-2004 04:32 AM

Because I love taking words out of people's mouths....

He's in Savage... not venting BOV.

Chris, I'm willing to bet it has something to do with your recently removed emissions.

I checked all the solenoids and they are all plugged in still. I really have no idea what it could be because the car still runs fine. It would be nice to see where to start looking and that is why I would like the logger.

Why not just rent an ODBII tool from checker?

tsiawdspeed 09-05-2004 12:22 PM

:headache: D'oh. I didnt even think about that. Anyone have any clue about how mucht that would cost?

Khadgar 09-05-2004 12:24 PM

It's free if you return it in the same condition you got it in.

If your removed your emissions, you are going to get a CEL on a 2G because of the lack of EGR function. The pressure differential switch on the manifold will not see the condition it is looking for and cause the light regardless of the exsistance of the solenoids on the firewall. You will have to get a DSMlink to kill the cell or maybe convince some lazy always sleeping electronics person to make a simple device to lie to the ECU about the exsistance of the EGR. Good luck with that.

You can get all kinds of CELs on 2Gs that won't affect how the car run because of OBD2. The most common are probably fuel trim, cat efficiency, and random misfires.

tsiawdspeed 09-05-2004 04:23 PM

It was the evaporative emissions control. I dont know why that would throw the CEL because the solenoid is still plugged in. Anyways, it ended up costing $6 and the code is now cleared so I am not worrying about it anymore.

LightningGSX 09-05-2004 11:10 PM

If you just cleared the code, the MIL will come back on.I can't remember if this is true of 2g DSMs, but OBDII vehicles are supposed to have a gas tank differential pressure sensor to test operation of the EVAP system.

BTW Why would you remove the EVAP system anyway?

tsiawdspeed 09-05-2004 11:47 PM

I was bored one day so I did it. I figured it wouldn't be a problem. If the light comes back on, ill just reset the ECU. It has taken over a month for the light to come on BTW
