BG2 is junk.

A//// Guy 08-27-2004 11:25 PM

I used it after my tranny build and it didnt do much to me. I just put in redline and it is better but now my clutch is funky so it got crunchy again.

Kracka 08-28-2004 04:27 AM

I also prefer Redline.

illz 08-28-2004 05:29 PM

i use bg2 in my 96 and 93 .. in my 96 it's excellent, in my 93 it seems a little thin until it's warmed up

TheBlizzard 08-28-2004 05:43 PM

It really depends on how much money you want to spend. If you want the best get the NEO, the only thing is, its $80 a gallon. Jet used it in his car and it was a night and day difference from the other shit he had in there. If you use a quart of Royal Purple or something else you can get two changes out of one bottle so $40 isn't too bad for each change.

Shep recomends it then I would use it.
He builds the best so he must know the best.
His trans his fluid he would know.

Neo. Redline can suck my balls when it comes to tranny fluid. Might as well just put water in your tranny then ;)

JET 08-29-2004 03:08 PM

I have, redline seems very thin. It does shift a little nicer than the BG2, but it does not seem to protect as well. I used Redline in 2 trannies once they started to get a little notchy and they went pretty quick after that. I used BG2 in one that was to the same point and it lasted much longer.

Tranny fluid is like a lot of things that can't be measured, it is personal preference. I used one quart of royal purple and 2 quarts of Neo. It really seems sweet. When you think about it, it is only $20 extra to go with the Neo. I think it is worth it, but YMMV.

illz 08-29-2004 08:21 PM

where do you get the neo and royal purple from?

Shep, TRE and Magnus Motorsports are the only trusted names when it comes to building DSM transmissions. Shep knows what he's talking about, otherwise he wouldn't be trusted as much as he is.

520Talon 08-29-2004 11:00 PM

I have run a TRE and a Shindley tranny. I used the TRE with the BG2 in it and with GM Syncromesh. There wasn't much difference. I have used GM Syncromesh and Redline in the Shindley. I prefer the GM. I have found the tranny much stiffer and notchier with the redline.

On tranny builders, there is no difference between my TRE tranny and the Shindley tranny. I know nothing of the Shepard or Magnus Trannys, never even looked on there sites. As far as I know all of the double syncros are availible from the dealership, not sure about the hardened shift forks or rails. Unless they have some sort of special magic parts they use they will be the same from almost anyone who can put a box together. YMMV.

At least we can all be happy we don't have WRX boxes.

thats what i thought too, but i was informed that it's all in the shimming and knowing what tolerances work best, so yes, there is some difference to it. if you build your trans to stock specs, then of course stock specs are stock specs, but all the big guys apparently do things a little differently for better longevity
