So...ya all know how my stupid conquest doesn't work still. I kept insurance on it though, figuring it would work next week...or next week...or...get the drift? So in the mean time, i've been driving my other car.

I never switched insurance over.

Then i got pulled over tonight by lakeville cops :fworld:

Ok, so pay attention to this all: He pulled me over for a noise/muffler violation (i dont have one, hole in manifold too). This is a valid reason, i give him that much. He also cited me for not wearing a seatbelt, because i took it off when he pulled me over so i could get to my wallet. This same bullshit happened to Brian, right? Anyway, i HAD IT ON before hand :headache:

I already said the main problem: No insurance on my car. What can happen to me? I'm positive i'm going to get heavy fines and lose my license for a period of time...please tell me i'm wrong =\.

What can i do to lessen any of these? Is there anyway to avoid losing my license, and can i argue any of those citations (mainly seatbelt)? Also, could i get my permit/license in a motorcycle and ride that or do I NEED a driver's license to ride a motorcycle also?

And yes, i know...i'm a fucking moron.

Usually if you plead guilty to the no insurance, they will drop any other minor violations you got with it.IIRC first offense no insurance is a $200 fine and 30 day revocation(not suspension)

I hate people that drive without insurance. IMO it is a hard thing to forget about. I wouldn't get mad if they didn't use the lube on you.

Kougar 08-26-2004 11:54 PM

Hence me saying i know i'm dumb for doing that, HOWEVER I got the parts for the quest to work 2 weeks after it was down. What the fuck was i supposed to do? Swap insurance right after it didn't work? Plus i have to have my DAD change it, as being 18 and having your own name on the policy is financial idiocy. What would you have done in this situation?

Oh, and thanks for the info Lightning.

I'm just a little pissed at myself and the circumstances, don't mind my ranting. You all have your opinions, but i have a tendency to get very defensive about anything.

STFU. He was asking for help and opinions... why even bother posting that.

Tom, I would just do as Lightning said... plead guilty so they're easier on you. It wouldn't be worth the trouble to try and fight it.

SlowWhite 08-27-2004 07:31 AM

Well I hope lightening is right about the no insurance.

When I got one cause I couldn't find my insurance card. They said it was $1000 and month suspension of license.

But I'm sure it's all based off record. Honestly try to get the insurance thing dropped out of all those tickets. cause it's the worste one.

Seat belt and Muffler violation is nothing. But the No insurance is big time.

TalonFiero 08-27-2004 09:14 AM

OK, pretty sure no insurance is $280.

Try this, it has worked for me in the past when I made a similar dumb mistake. I called my insurance company, told them to put insurance on the car going back to a couple days before the incident. They were happy to have me pay for days in the past. :bounce: I then had the insurance fax me the document showing that my car was covered at the time of the incident, it was dropped.

when you buy a new car you have i believe 30 days to tell your insurance company, and they backdate your insurance to the date of purchase. this may apply to adding insurance to a vehicle as well. call them and tell them you switched cars 2 weeks ago and need to have your coverage updated, and a copy sent to you

chances are, even if you called right now and said put coverage on it, they would send you an insurance card for August 1st 2004 through Feb 1st 2004 or whatever, and you'd be fine

Thats what I had them do, back date the insurance.

Worked for me

They will not allow you to ride a motorcycle without a valid Drivers License... Some states go by driving points... Motorcycle License and Drivers Licnese both use the same points..

Ok guys, thanks for all the advise. I should be pretty well covered now. :grouphug:

DON'T DO THIS!!! We almost ALWAYS do an insurance check with ALL major and local companies after a stop like this. We do this search while we do paperwork later that night, and we document this search for court. If you get post dated insurance and take that to court, you're sure to fuck yourself.

If you got away with this in the past, More power to ya... If you think it's worth a try, go nuts. I wouldn't. Just my two cents worth.

SuperSleeper 08-31-2004 01:24 PM

That would make sense if he took documentation to court, but couldn't he just bring it to the traffic violations window and have them write that part of the ticket off right there? I'm positive they're not that thorough there.

Oh, and thanks for the info Lightning.

Just think of the burden you could put on your friends and family if you were to get into a accident and hurt someone or get hurt yourself.

So the lack of a small hassle to your dad today could cause your dad some MAJOR financial and emotional strain if you were to get hurt tommrow.(it also shows that you are being responsible)

medical bills can pile up FAST. My friend was in for getting hit at a mere 25mph in a "daisy chain" accident. The one nights stay cost him 20 bones, cost his insurance 2500. And they only did a stupid scan and gave him some green cubed jello, shit didn't even have cool whip on it :-D

the people at progressive are great about insurance switching

they didn't even charge me when my svt was in the shop and I had to reinsure my dsm for 3 days.
the lady just said, call back before weeks end, and we probly won't even bill you for it.

now lets say someone hits me and they do not have insurance.

i'm going to put them into chapter 13 if I or anyone else is hurt. No second thoughts on my part.

but its good to know that you knew you were being illogical

Kougar 08-31-2004 09:37 PM

[sarcasm]Good to see other people posting negative about this...[/sarcasm]. As Dane said a few posts back, i'm only looking for advice, which was provided by many people. Go make a new thread to flame me if you really feel the need to do so. I know the the consequences of my actions, if anyone else feels to the urge to vent, please do so on your own account and not on this thread.

ANYWAY...

The ticket says this:

IF YOU HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH 'NO PROOF OF INSURANCE'...
you must show one of the following items to the court administration by the court date on your ticket:

1) Copy of insurance coverage card
2) Letter from Agent
3) Copy of insurance policy

The info sent must include the name of the insured, vehicle type, and proof of coverage for the date of the offense.
- You may provide your proof of insurance by mail, fax, or in person
- If you are charged with another violation (like the seatbelt one i want to FIGHT), please send payment for that violation along with your proof of insurance.

To me, this sounds like just getting coverage for the car AFTER the offense will not work, as JDM mentioned. So, now i'm back to not knowing what to do. I'm thinkin guilty with an explanation will get me a fine without license revokation (based on a clean record), correct? But will that raise insurance rates or have any other 'side effects?'

FattyBoomBatty 08-31-2004 11:51 PM

i got pulled over a year and some ago, and he axed for my insurance, and i pulled out the car and it was expired, and i was like, "i swear i had the latest card.. blah blah blah" and he wrote me a fix it ticket. then when i got home i looked through the golvebox and found the current card.

was your ticked like a fix it ticket where you show them you have it, and then they drop it? can that happen in your case?

illz 09-01-2004 12:48 AM

you're missing the point. had you called right away, and possibly if you call now, and say you have had your car up and running 3 weeks and need to have it covered, they will insure you FROM 3 WEEKS AGO and charge you for it

on a new car, you have up to 30 days to call your insurance company and they will backdate 30 days

i assume it's the same on resuming coverage

call NOW and get the insurance and ask for proof of insurance from that date.

Kougar 09-01-2004 12:55 PM

Well since i get insurance under my dad, I hda him swap insurance from the quest to the car i got pulled over in. That was Monday...I just told him to swtich it, not to "backdate" it.

It's lookin more and more like i'll just have to plead guilty and get a decent sized fine :razz2:
