Jim, Ryan, Swanny and I all had a ton of fun at BIR this weekend, nothing like the feel of 16,000 HP taking off right in front of you. Pretty cool stuff.

Now that all that is done, anyone know any results from the SO?

Halon 08-15-2004 11:54 PM

16,000, wholly hell. BTW, did they ever even finish last years shootout video?

8,000 + 8,000 = 16,000

Cher had all of the video from last years SO, but nothing ever came of it.

If anyone has footage (of anything) I will gladly hack it up and choreograph it to some music.

chris carey, didnt have the best time down at the SO, but i will let him explain that to you when he gets back tomorrow.

niterydr 08-16-2004 08:21 AM

yeah 16000hp is loud. You don't hear it, just feel it :).
Until you've seen top fuel and nitro funny cars go at it, you haven't been drag racing.

spuh? were you in a cone of silence? how can you not hear 240 db?

Pushit2.0 08-16-2004 10:18 AM

I have seen a 4000hp funny car, it doesnt matter how loud it is, its the vibration threw your body that makes it what it is. I also heard you can hear the top fuel guys from over 30miles away when their racing.

The track was definately fun! BIR + Babes Intoxication & Racing

Thats too bad to hear about Chris's manifold, I had hoped it would hold together for at least a couple passes, but I am pretty sure it's life is over for good. Not sure what they made it from, but it definately wasn't 321.

240 db would explode the heads of everybody there.160 db will pierce eardrums, 240 db is 10 million times louder than 160 db.

Enes 08-16-2004 11:42 AM

what was it for every 3db the noise is doubled ...

LightningGSX 08-16-2004 12:28 PM

Its logarithmic, so every ten dB, output is tenfold.

Wouldn't that be exponential?

SlowWhite 08-16-2004 12:56 PM

240DB would probably kill someone.

747's produce around 150db's on take off.

Yeah I fucked up.Sound is doubled every ten decibels.3 dB= double the power. The difference between 160 dB and 240 dB is 100 million times the output.Atomic blasts are right around 240 dB, hence to major shockwave. It is actually exponential from the threshold of human hearing, when expressed in Bels not dB's I believe.

LightningGSX 08-16-2004 01:24 PM

Damn, I'm turning into a post whore.

Shut Up Mensa!!!

finch63tsi 08-16-2004 04:42 PM

:naughty: i think if you want to talk like a teaher you should stop talking cuz,

i'm used to sleeping while they are talking!!!! :razz2: ;)

Raptor 08-16-2004 05:44 PM

If you mensa losers want to keep yacking about dB's and other things I give not a single shit about, start another thread. You could call it the "I think I have a big brain so I am going to talk about dB's and try to sound intelligent" thread. Should be a bunch of you little nerdy dorks in there.

SlowWhite 08-16-2004 06:04 PM

I'm a blonde I can't be a nerd.

I was just relating to my DB Drag Days when I was hitting 143db's.

And I know what the cars that were hitting 160db's sounded like as well as them breaking world records at the time.

Then trying to imagine 240db's is in one word....."WOW"

Anyways back on topic - did you get any video of the Dragsters? I've never seen a top fuel car in person only on TV.

Where were there Times and MPH like?
