Yesterday the GSX made her maiden voyage at 10pm.

was nervious about getting on it. since there was no tuning done to the car.

But like usual that didn't last long. I did 3 pulls on the way to walmart to get Jenny a movie, Candy, and some Mountain dew ie: just an excuse to take it out, ;)

(MBC - was set as low as it could go 17psi, and running 92 oct, all runs had zero counts of knock)

Run 1 - 3rd gear - 3K-4700rpms (at 4500rpms I was seeing 15psi) (30lbs/min)

Run 2 - 3rd Gear - 4K-6Krpms (32lbs a minute) - wasn't WOT entire time due to truck pulling out.

Run 3 - 4200-7K - (41lbs/min and climbing)

I haven't had a chance to take it up to 8K to see what that yeilds maybe on lunch break today I'll do it.

I've been taking it slow and watching the Laptop to make sure nothing was going wrong, etc)

so far I'm excited about what she has instore. As it sits all sliders at "Zero" the smile on my face gets bigger the higher the rpms get. Cause it just starts pulling really hard.

at 17psi I'm already seeing 3 more lbs/min then my S20G was able to push Maxed out on pumpgas. And I'm seeing zero counts of knock where as with the other turbo I was seeing 2-4 counts (bad) @20psi

Anyrate time to schedual some dyno time.

Only thing I'm going to change is the Dump tube - that's definetly going back into the exhaust. I hate the sound of External dump..... The turbo almost drowns it out but just the exhaust leak sound drive me nuts.

I'd rather hear spool up of a turbo then an exhaust leak any day.

I'll have picts up tomarrow. looks much much better with the new sideskirts.

I want to thank Jet, and John for all there help this weekend. Jet in perticular for staying up late working on it. And John... we would have been high and dry with out your Welder. Thanks for Bringing it down.

Congrats!!!!

you seing 32# of air at what rpm and wot?

hmm. looking at my logs i see 36#/min at 6500 wot .. so i hope you are sing more than that

now i just looked at the logs and at 4700 i am only seing 12.3# of air..

i think my maft needs to be calibrated tho.. especially since at 22psi on the dyno maximum i was seing was 36# of air.. i think there is something wrong with this turbo too now.. since it starts the spool at 3600 10.4# of air ...
and at 4k i get 19.9#, 4.5k 24# , 5k 28#, 5.5k 32.4# , 6k 33.6#, 6.5k 34.4# , 7k is when i finaly see 36# of air..

so between 6500 and 7500 is when i only see 36# of air.. :(

32lbs/min - is at around 5K rpms (ie: turbo's just starting to spool)

Was supprised actually to see when the turbo would spool. Depending on Gear/Load conditions.

I did a 4th gear pull starting at 2500rpms just to see when I start to see some PSI.

and at around 3500rpms I was at 5psi and climbing. (my S20G started at 3700)

The Turbo doesn't come alive till upper RPMS (5500+) but that's expected due to it's size.

Cool thing was I am making the sam lbs/min as my S20G in the lower RPMS. Which is cool. Cause hopefully I'll be making the same HP as the 20G in the 4-5K range then from 5K and up It'll should really start to make some power.

Since I prefer to run from a roll anyways, 5K+ power band for me works out great.

Granted I have only have like 25 minutes seat time driving to walmart last night and then into work this morning with all Sliders set at zero. These are just some of my initial findings. Which can easily change. I haven't had enough room or felt safe enough to try a full out 3rd gear pull.

Enes - my S20G tuned to the max @20psi on 92 oct I was only getting 38lbs/min@8000rpms. And I was seeing 2-4 counts of knock. If I tried uping the boost it knocked more. So 20psi was it's sweet spot (at least in my case)

So to see 32lbs/min by 4500rpms 17psi was cool. I'm excited to see what happens with more boost, and tuning.

Hell I'm just happy to be driving my car. I love the new Sideskirts, and the new White 18" rims.

Now if I can just clean up the 8months of Dust I accumilated in side and outside the car I'd be good to go.

Back from lunch with new updates.

Well was able to do one 3rd gear run to 7550rpms - got 43.2lbs/min out of it. And was climbing all the way till I let off.

But on my way into work. My damn temps were up like usual. around 220 - I don't know what the deal is.

I did the water weter which was great yesterday and this morning - consistant 206temps regardless if I was on it or not.

I got my fans to turn on when I was parked at my house. But couldn't tell if they were coming on when I was driving...

When I got to work after lunch I turned on the heater (which usually helps temps go down) but instead they went up event farther. So I shut the car off and came in side.

I also noticed a small oil patch where I was parked earlier. It's coming from my A/N fittings that attach to the turbo on the oil return line. I only Siliconed the threads on 1 of the 2 Fittings (ie: 3 part system) So I'm sure the 2nd part is where it's leaking. Not really a big deal other then having to watch to make sure I don't spill Oil as I take the return line off.

Anyrate - looks like about 2-3lbs/min for 3 every 500rpms. So hopefully by 8000rpms I'll be able to see 45lbs/min on 17psi.

Which is actually starting to make me wonder since it's continueally making more AirFlow does that mean my turbo isn't getting fully spooled? 17psi is reach just under 5K. But what's with the increase of Air flow?

illz 07-12-2004 01:50 PM

if you're worried about fans not coming on, get under the dash and wire together ecu pins 20 and 21, then grab a switch and run a wire from the switch to ground and to 20/21. that way when the fans come on at all, they'll be on high, and you can use the switch to ground the wires manually and trigger the fans to come on high. if you want a nifty lighted switch you've gotta use a relay though, at least with the lighted switch i have it will only switch 12v, not ground, so i used the switch to trigger a spdt relay to send ground to 20/21

Thanks for the heads up on the Fans. I'm actually thinking about doing that. I can switch them on with the DSMLINK but I won't always be running my lap top.

Enes - your Numbers look correct at least from my stand point.

My S20G would hit that constant mark (38lbs/min) from 7200rpms-80000rpms@20psi.

But don't forget I had HKS Cams, Larger TB, Sheet Metal Intake, Short route I/C piping, ported 2G Manifold. Which all help Air/Flow.

What did Shane say about your Dyno numbers? The HP numbers do seem a bit low. But I'm not sure exactly how your car is set up.

JET 07-12-2004 02:04 PM

As your rev's go higher you are going to take in more air per minute. air flow (lb/min)= RPM * (boost * engine size)

So, the higher the RPM, boost or engine size, the more air flow you are going to see.

SlowWhite 07-12-2004 02:48 PM

I was wondering why is it that you get a plato of the lbs/min.

My car would hit 38lbs/min at like 7200rpms till 8000rpms and then just sit there.

does that mean at that I've maxed out the turbo flow capabilities at that PSI level?

JET 07-12-2004 08:27 PM

It means you maxed out something in the flow process. It could be intake, cams, turbo, etc. Usually if it totally stays flat it is the turbo though. The other ones usually become a bigger and bigger restriction, so the gains diminish. They can also all add up.

SlowWhite 07-13-2004 09:17 AM

Well Yesterday I did 3.... 8000rpms Runs @17psi

Run 1 - 3 gear - 45lbs/min

Run 2 - 2 gear 48lbs/min

Run 3 - 3rd gear on a ramp - 40lbs/min
