In the quest to find out why my car wouldn't boost past 7psi, I checked all the intake and IC piping, all the vacuum lines etc, and finally took off the BC, and the MoFo was dirty as hell. I guess there was enough dirt and gunk in there that the ball wouldn't seat against the fitting, so basically there was a free path to the wastegate actuator, thus no boost.
Moral of the story. Check and clean out your boost controller regularly. ;) |

I wouldnt use water... as it corrodes or rusts. Maybe use WD-40 or some other type of degreaser.

Maybe there are steel parts on it like the washers or whatever. Mines made of brass and steel so whatever. Aluminum corrodes thats why I put corrodes... Steel rusts there for I put rusts. Geez :razz2: |

I know what rust and oxidation and corrosion do I have dealt with many many examples and I know that if water comes in contact with steel or aluminum a chemical reaction occurs and the water starts to eat through the metal after a Log ass time. But surface corrosion can be just as bad. I know my Joe P MBC has a turn dial which is painted black and made of steel. Its already rusting.... Air does not cause near the amount of corrosion as does water. Just like in the thread about using straight water instead of antifreeze. Water is water a chemical reaction still occurs. Salt on the other hand really speeds things up. ANYWAY back to the topic of cleaning MBC's. If you use water make sure you blow it all out and dry it really well. ;) |
Wouldn't Carb-cleaner be the best? I mean, it is designed to do exactly what you guys are describing. Just a thought.

Im going to find proof but distilled water will still corrode. H2O is H2O having all those minerals and chemicals will probably speed up the corrosion process but distilled water, I think, will still have a corrosion factor becuase of the chemical reaction with metal.
Yea carb cleaner will work to as it is a degreaser like I suggested. Matt- Why am I stupid? Have I said anything that is totally false?? |

I'm having a problem with my Boost where No matter what I can't get it to sit at a given PSI.
the spring is a 17psi spring so I turned my boost controller almost all the way out. (to the point where the knob section is about to fall off) And still today I did 2 pulls to 8Krpms and was seeing it climb straight to red line. At least it was going up slower then normal but still climbing to 20psi. (the other day it was climbing to 25psi) I don't think it's creep because it never stops at any given psi and then climbs. It just keeps on going. It's a big turbo so there is plenty of Lag. I blew out both my tial gaskets but - yesterday I swapped them out and used the Hight Temp Copper RTV that's rated to 700degrees that I was told to use instead. Anyways I can't quite tell what's going on. MY MBC is 5 years old. and I think the spring is probably just stuck Since I ran 20psi basically the entire time. Even the screw part had rust on it. One thing I did notice is that when trying to clamp down my Waste GAte to my manifold the outer edges had a gap as if the manifold wasn't perfectly flat? Or as if my dump tube is resting against my 02 sensor and prying it up. Cause it was a PIA to mount the waiste gate with the Dump tube attached first. |
Just bypass your boost controller. Hook the like straight up to the WG and you should run 17 psi since you have a 17 psi spring.

I'll try that this afternoon.
Hopefully I have enough Vacuum hose left over to make a complete route. What will it mean if I by pass the MBC all together and it still goes above 17psi? -brian |
The wastegate might not be big enough for the airflow.
