I was looking at this 93 laser turbo AWD 140,000 miles all stock $3000 O.B.O. All power and everthing works. The turbo spools quick and the car seemed fine. The only thing I didn't like was that it was an automatic. I was wondering if it would make a difference if I wanted to put some mods into the car or should I just find a manual? I want the car to run low 13's.

Usually manual transmissions are stronger becuase they are designed to take more abuse. I test drove a 96 GSX with my friend (who owns an SRT4) and let me tell you having an automatic turbo car is very different. When your used to feeling that shift into second and it just goes without you doing it its almost disorienting. If its your first dsm/ turbo car you wont really notice the difference. The one thing automatics are very useful for bracket racing as you will run very consistent runs. Later on as you get towards those 13 sec timeslips you may want to get an MSD or other brand ignition box with the dual rev limiters for launching at the track. Anyways I hope my rambling help out a little. :goodluck: :dsmrule:

the main thing I wanted to know was if it is easier, harder, or the same to modify a manual or automatic.
|
go manual!
|
You can get stuff to make the Auto stronger, but I would go with a stick, My stock Tsi auto gets 18 MPG. My laser, a 5 speed with mods gets gets 27 MPG.

I have had two 91 talons both TSI and awd one auto and one manual, hands down the manual was way faster due to the bigger turbo and injecters. The tranny in the auto was starting to slip really bad. Anyways i still have the manual with 174.000 miles and modded and still going strong.

My first was a 2g AWD auto. The car wasnt bad. But, then I got a 2g FWD manual and wow, what a difference. Get a manual!!

I think I'll let this dsm pass me bye and wait for a manual. Thanks for all the advice and opinions.

Autos are not that bad on dsms. I have smoked a few manuals with similar mods with mine. Plus the launches are awsome with awd. Dont get me wrong I would like to have a manual also but if you install and shift kit with some good tranny fluid and an aftermarket oil cooler they can be close to manuals. THe no lift to shif is also nice. They do suck down more gas though :headache:

I LOVE driving a manual! Ricks car is lots a fun to drive!!!!!!!

I am sick of Manual, and will be soo happy to get into an Auto again.

I won't change my mind. A MT just gets annoying. Unless it is something I pretty much race only, I'm not in any mood to ever own another Daily Driver AT.
