Interested in Chump car?
We currently have a team of three putting together a foxbody for what will likely be one race in 2014 (depending on resources and cash). We are wondering if anyone else is looking to be a part of a team going forward to compete in Chump and other car fitting formats.
We are looking for another 1 or 2 people for a full share of responsibility with this. We have some options for people for seats come race day but looking for that full buy in for an ongoing basis. If interested PM me and I'll get you more info. One other team member is on this forum, I'll let him chime in as he wants. :) The other is not on this board, but several members here know him. Matt (Picklz) with the Yellow Vette. |

Re: Interested in Chump car?
Wanna be the mayor of spoodge town?
How many times we gonna refer back to this and that we are looking for full time committed team members first. We aren't saying no to you, sheesh man. lol |
Re: Interested in Chump car?
Pony up Brown, you know you wanna! FYI, I am the other member that is on board with the team. Very laid back team. We have the shop space, tools and basically everything we need. Buy in won't be huge. Let AJ or I know and we can talk about it over beers if you are seriously interested.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
How about me, Shane, and one other guy? :D And can we bring a car?
Been trying to find a 4th for a while... Its easy to find people to rent seats but I want members who can help with the car. What event are you shooting for? |
Re: Interested in Chump car?
God damn, why are there no teams in the Des Moines area that are looking for partners! I very much want to be part of a team, but nothing is available here.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
but seriously, we should merge teams. Our big goal of the summer for our chump DSM is VIR 24. We're probably going to go to Gateway 14hr before that as a warm up.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
Chump Carrrrrr! For 2014 we were discussing trying to make a HPDE early/mid summer to give the car a good shakedown and get some seat time and then the Road America race in October, but nothing is set in stone.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
And that is how you do a first post 4 years of signing up....

Re: Interested in Chump car?
We might also do RA in the fall as well.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
The idea of a larger team isn't a bad one for resources but something like VIR is just out of the scope for us this year. Matt's getting married and I have a new born so we started going into this with the "pace ourselves" vision a bit and that also seemed to line up with JET as well. This made the RA event in Oct a good one and then hopefully have a few more lined up for 2015.
Maybe it would make sense to have have the resources pooled, but I want to make sure everyone would be on the same page as for exceptions when you have one team more experienced and at a different stage than another. |
Re: Interested in Chump car?
I'm starting to think having a few extra drivers is better than not having enough. There are always people who can't make races or would sit out to save money. Having actual crew is nice at races as well, we haven't had that in a while.
I don't think the experience thing would be a big concern for us, we're not arrogant and we don't have any freakishly talented drivers. If you have a couple HPDE's under you're belt you're probably within spitting distance of our skill level :D We plan on going to a few driving events to shake the car down and can get a new person seat time. I'm not really even looking for experienced drivers. The most important things for me now are having enough $$$ to race, and having time, ability, and DSM knowledge to help work on the car. Engineering types a plus. Not too surprisingly, I can find a ton of people who want to rent seats and have always wanted to drive an AWD DSM in a wheel to wheel race. Just can't find people who can join the team permanently. The goal with our car is to make it easy enough to drive that my grandma could do it. User friendly and reliable, as opposed to our last car (often would try to kill you). |
Re: Interested in Chump car?
For the guys that are starting out as a new team, I encourage you to at least spend time or volunteer at a chumpcar event if you can. It will help you plan and prepare for your first race. Also renting seat time with an existing team is not a bad option, for most people is reaffirms whether the right choice was made to starting a team in the first place. Most people get hooked after renting a seat, cant say you were not warned! Ha!

Re: Interested in Chump car?
I will be looking to help a team out this spring/summer just as crew if needed for something local to get a good feel, other than that just looking forward to being behind the wheel.

Re: Interested in Chump car?
You can come and volunteer to help work the WRL race at BIR May 31, I'll be doing tech. Or you could find a team to crew for.
