aem v1 question

Ok I have zero knowledge about the aem v1 and my question is.

Does the v1 have any ability to adjust speedo readings?

Ex: putting larger then normal tires on the car throughing the Speedo off.

Anyway to fix it.with the aem.

Also os there anyway to fix the "rich cold start issue"?

On a 2g yes it can do all that and more. Get a wideband in the car for o2 feedback as well.

I think the gauge cluster speedo gets it's reading directly from speed sensor in the trans speedo sensor, not from the ECU.

You can adjust the startup fueling with an AEM(you have to build just about every table anyways), but cars are usually supposed to run rich during car start. The AEM has it's own problems that you need to deal with though compared to DSMLink or a reflash. Cranking fuel and warm up fueling can be adjusted in factory ECU systems also like DSMLink.

I am with Shane, thinking the AEM is driven off the speed sensor, how much larger tire are you thinking Brian?

Cars need to be richer than stoic to start and all of that can be adjusted in the AEM.

The question ia actually for a 95 supra I wad looking at.

The car has two problems. Cold start and it reads 20mph low.

The aem is for a gte motor. But the car has a built n/a motor. And I was trying to see how easy these issues would be to fix

20mph low? Something else is wrong besides the tire size. Does it have 5.13 gears in the rear or something?

Re: aem v1 question

I asked the question if there was a gear size change when they installed the trd rear diff or when they built the tranny. But the owner replied he didn't request one.
However I'm pretty sure its a gearing issue in the rear diff now. Just not sure how to adjust for it or if there is a fix yet, still looking

Re: aem v1 question

From what I can tell a stock n/a diff has a different gear ratio then a trd diff.(much stronger diff)

I was hoping there was some way to compensate for this which is why I was wondering if aem had a tire size adjustments. Which might be a work around for the trd diff.

Re: aem v1 question

Seems like a lot of money for a car that wasn't a TT originally. I am not sure about fixing the speedo, it depends on how it is wired. The car probably won't run on it's own until it warms up some because of that throttle body. It probably got rid of a lot of the factory idle control or has no idle control motor/valve. The stock Supra intake manifolds and throttle bodies have idle control valves/motors and mechanical dashpots. Often the upgraded stuff on those cars don't have shit. The R154 trans is from like a MKIII Supra, which is better than the factory W58 5-speed at least.

The cheapest manual tt I've found is actually still for sale. $20, 000
Has a single on it but pretty much nothing else. Has 260, 000 miles (owner said he's not sure exact mileage as odometer stopped working at 260k.

I can find auto tt's stock from $17, 500 on up.

Na-t's start at 17, 000 and go up

N/a - start at 13, 500 on up

Tt shells start at 10,000 (no motor or trans)

Ive been looking everyday for three months. And those are the best numbers I've found so far.

From what I've read on supra forums seems the aemv1 has cold start issues regularly. Just have to build the table like you mentioned earlier. Which the owner couldn't say if it was done or not. Since speed for sale is located in atlanta its possible they didn't build one.

I originally thought it had the gte swap as this is the first time I've seen a n/a built up using the stock motor. If it wasn't for the radiator hose I wouldn't have caught it. Up until this week I had only beem researching gte motors. I haven't looked into power potential etc of the n/a motor

Using the GE motor in na-t's is actually reasonably common. This guy proved they can go fast (9.45et on stock bottom I believe): http://www.boostwerx.com/index.html

Pricing you have above seems spot on. I still want one someday.

I'm worried about how rich the guy say's it runs until warm. Sounds like washing the cylinders type of rich. And if so, they gas is mixing with oil, and that is never good for anything..

Re: aem v1 question

I missed my dream supra, tt/6spd a few months back. White/black guy lost his job put the car up for sale starting at 35k. As the month went on and his bills were coming due he kept lowering the price. With in 3 weeks it was sold for $24, 000 to a guy in canada. Only thing I would have changed on it was the car was plasti dipped instead of repainted to save money.
