Ok, here's the deal. My dad used to have a company car, and he was the only person authorized to drive it, so my mom and I weren't even considered "part time" drivers, so my rate was good since it was just 2 cars, mine being one of them.
Now my dad's company dropped his company car program, and he had to buy an car to get to and from work, but now that his car is privately owned, I have to be insured on it, and since I am a teenage male, I get raped. Anyway, my insurance went from about $130 a month to $275 a month, just because of my dad's car. What are my options here to get cheaper insurance, should I get my own policy completely seperate from my family?? If that is the case, what companies would you recommend?? Is prokop any good, they say they can save money, but I don't wanna get screwed if I have to make a claim. Thanks for the help guys!!! Edit: Also, I forgot to mention that I went on progressive.com and got an online quote and they wanted almost $4000 for 6 months of coverage, so I think that might be messed up. |
Move out.

American family has fiven me the best rates for being by myself it was like $200/ month for my 90 gsx (primary) and my 98 gsx (secondary).
Farm Bureau tries to rape me by saying I would need to have the insurance of the house i reside in through them also. With Progressive you really need a perfect driving record and you need to find the holes in their policies. State Farm can be decent but it depends on who you talk to- One guy there quoted me a $400/ month price. The other guy said it would be about $750/year. :goodluck: |
State Farm gives me awsome rates. Call Progressive on the phone if you want a realistic quote.

I was thinking about that, but if i claimed that I lived at my neighbors house or whatever, wouldn't I have to change the address on my drivers license and all that stuff?? Anyway, I am thinking that getting my own policy is definately the way to go, it is really bullshit that I have to pay for insurance as a "part time driver" on 2 cars that I don't ever drive. |
whats your insurance company now?

How come every site I go to to get a quote gives me something insane, like over $500 a month?? I just made up a guy with a perfect driving record, and they still want almost $300 a month, wtf? |
Telephone. Its faster, easier, and more accurate.

cliff notes..... state farm rocks, always willing to pay up even if someone else should, and we have never had a complant with them..... though we are probably putting our agents kids through collage with all of our toys. btw we have 6 cars but three drivers. I am 16 (male) my brother is 22, and my sister is 20. |
i have american family. mine just dropped to $70 a month with liability only.
it was $95 a month but i got a good student discount now. most incurance place will take an unoffical transcript of your grades. ive heard its not too hard to make a fake transcript ;) |
With State farm I pay $86 a month for full coverage on my talon and storage insurance on my CRX. Garnted I'm 30 years old and have been with them for over 5 years.
If you want your rates to drop, take an approved class to help with your driving. You may not need it if you are a safe driver but they will drop your rates quite a bit if you take defensive driving courses and such. Also, if they offer other types of insurance (ie. life insurance, etc.), take out one of those policies. Terina took out a life insurance policy that costs her $7 a month, but it dropped her car insurance $20 a month!! You need things like multi-line discounts (like the life insurance policy) and multi-vehicle discounts. Also with State Farm, if you have a "B" or better grade point average, they drop some money off for that. If you are with them for 3 years and are accident and ticket free, it drops another 10 % or so. Go in and talk to your agent. If they aren't willing to help you find ways to lower your car insurance, look at another company. When I went to State Farm, they bent over backwards trying to find all the discounts they could find for me. Don't stop at your first quote either. Make them work for their money. Tell them you want them to show you what coverages are available and what the estimates would be. Although it means you would have to pay more to fix your car if an accident occurs, you could try raising your deductable for a year or two until you turn the magical age that the rates drop. Basically it would mean that much less money you would get from the insurance company if they have to pay out on the claim. Most people have it at around $250, but you could raise it to $500 and drop your rates. Or you could just get married. Your rates drop about in half when you do that!!! |
State farm blow, I hate the. All-State killed any rate i ever got for a quote anywhere else.

[/b][/quote] ok... its sounds like your in the exat smae boat as me. I used to have farmers, let me just say, if you cant find a cheaper company find one thats equal and change. farmers screwed me out of so much money i cant even begin to count it. I changed to progessive, and they gave me a qoute that was about the same alittle less cuz i got a speeding ticket right before i switched. Insurance has a lot to do with where the car is kept. I pay 250 a month, for liability. thats on a 88 crx. It would be half the cost if i told the bastards my car was two miles away at my grandmas house. its a crock! either way dump farmers. And do it fast! |
